Inman Connect, was just that - connecting with great professionals from around the country and connecting with new ideas and strategies. Here are my top five "connections."
Social Networking works - we twittered, we blogged, we emailed, we text messaged and yes, WE MET. Linda Davis is a well known blogger from the southeast corner of Connecticut - she specializes in a wonderful little town called Ledyard. My roommate, the editor for Realtown knows Linda and thought it would be nice for us to connect. And we did - on a train into the city for Inman Connect. (New York City, of course!) Once there we met lots of people and did some networking. Most notable for me was an introduction to Julie Ryan a speaker from Australia. I am coordinating some teaching events there so I can visit my son in Australia - he is studying there for 6 months. Julie is going to help me make that happen.
Craig Newmark customer service rep & founder, craigslist.org sat on a panel with Martin Nisenholtz, Sr. VP, Digital Operations, of the New York Times. They offered their perspective on where the future of real estate marketting on the internet is headed. Craig mentioned that if we see any "real estate" violations on the site (especially REALTORS(r) advertising on the For Sale By Owner side to email him directly. After the session, I met Craig and he said to email him for updated statistics for my class. Craig Newmark is cool.
Frontdoor - the newest entry into the online syndication sites is from HGTV. Need i say more?
Blogging works - Met four other amazing bloggers, other than Linda Davis and Fran Thorsen. All of them attribute a good amount of their business to their blogs. One woman, Teresa Boardman share with me her thoughts on what makes a blog work. She has one of the most personal sites that I enjoyed reading. Check out my interview with her here.
A great Blogger - We met at the "Beer for Bloggers" party, hosted by Zillow. Jim Duncan, author of the blog http://www.realcentralva.com/ in Virginia attributes 50 to 70% of his business to his blog. Jim noted during his talk on a panel at Inman that he dedicates bewtween 2 to 4 hours a day, reading other blogts and writing his own.
That's it. Next year, make sure you attend.
