What the Heck!!! A case of Legal Paper is $65 Bucks $$$$Case of paper

How is that possible??

That's like $1.20 per pound... and you don't even get to digest it (well.....not normally)!

So with this new found knowledge from my trip to Office Depot last night....I am now committed more than ever to become Paper~Less.....

I already have cut down on my paper consumption dramatically over the past year/year and a half. I keep electronic folders for all of my listings. I have cut out printing inspection reports, home warranty confirmations, and other related items to our contracts. It all goes in the folder on my desktop! If I ever need it, I can just open it up. I have found this very helpful also due to my aging eye sight (not me just my eyes), if need be, I can just increase the view to 125% and I can read that fine print perfectly! This is very convenient!

When I receive interesting items in the mail or even email, that I want to share with my agents, instead of making copies for everyone and handing them out, now I will scan the document and email or just forward the information to everyone with a click of the button!

And of course the great thing about emailing information instead of passing around paper, is that you have an actual date/time 'paper trail'........ Kind of Ironic isn't It?

Now....I must confess.....I'm not totally paperless.....Just Paper~Less! I still keep hard copies of Listing Contracts and Buy/Sell Contracts in my folders. I keep accounting folders for my company and I keep receipts and documentation for my flip houses.

But, I have cut down significantly. And with this new found information about how the paper prices have really gone InSaNe.....I will be cutting down even more!

Paperfill

In addition, Did You Know that for every ton of paper we don't use as a society, we reduce office expenses by 25% and also SaVe 17 trees!

A few additional suggestions to help cut paper waste:

Pay bills online and request NOT to receive a paper bill. (This is a huge savings of paper waste)

Scan as much as possible (Did you know the average office will make 5 copies of each piece of paper)

Use Digital Signatures whenever possible (This will be a game changer if I could get my Board to go along)

Use electronic-autofill forms. (No waste when a mistake is made)

Going Green

So I am making a committment to myself to continue to improve on my Paper~Less Mission!

I'm with you on this.  After 17 years as a real estate agent, the accumulated paper files forced me to make a change. I pass along every piece of important paper to my office (listings, leases & contracts) and keep digital files for myself.  Backing up your digital files is the most important postscript here.

Thanks for a really meaningful post.  It's hard for some people to let go of the paper files, but it's so much neater.  Digital copies are easier to put my hand on, too.

Ive just begun to try to cut down the paper in file.  It's taking some effort but I'm sure we'll get mostly there.
