Random acts of kindness are incredibly powerful. Just how powerful, I was reminded of a couple of days ago. I was on the receiving end and, simply put and without an ounce of exaggeration, it made my day. As a matter of fact, it is still making my day ..

I was on my way out the door at Seibel's where I had enjoyed a nice office meeting/lunch with the owner of Thompson Company Realtors, Larry Thompson. My mind was busy processing all the information about the lots we'll be offering for sale soon. What would be the best marketing strategy? Pricing .. time-frames .. a great Silver Spring community ..

Deep in thought I passed this elderly couple. Suddenly the lady stopped me, put her hand on my arm and said: "Has anyone told you yet how nice you look today?" Just like that. One simple, random act of kindness and a complete stranger had made my day.

As a Silver Spring, MD area Realtor®, I live a pretty exciting life .. no 2 days are alike. I get to meet lots of wonderful people and I get to help them purchase their dream home or sell their old one and move on to bigger and better things. It often makes my day but not this time.

It wasn't the excitement of the new listings, the challenge of selling those lots (I'm always up for one), the planning of a marketing strategy or the appreciation I felt about the owners selecting us... it was that random act of kindness by a stranger.

I can still feel her hand on my arm and I wish it hadn't taken me by surprise the way it did. I wish I could thank her again and let her know how much of an impact her gesture and words had on me.

I got a feeling, however, that that may not be necessary. Passing on the kindness and making another stranger's day may just be the thank you the lady was hoping for.

I'm going to do just that.

P.S.: Starting November 13th, 2012, a whole week is being dedicated to Random Acts of Kindness.

Andrea, I know that made you feel good and that lady has discovered the secret of taking a moment to give someone a compliment. You simply must pass it on.

Hi Debbie, I believe that the lady has made it her mission to spread kindness to strangers on a daily basis. I'm going to follow her lead! It's powerful.

Hi Wandanna, oh - that sounds like a great idea! Participating in the Random Act of Kindness Week and sharing its power may just inspire others to do the same..

Andrea, sincere acts of kindness and noticing people can change their entire day.  I love to compliment people on the way they look, their clothing, their glasses, whatever...the very best thing though is to see their eyes sparkle when they realize someone noticed something special about them.  Very powerful.

Andrea,

I must say I am glad you posted that. As small as it seems it has a big impact on people. I try to do that too but always hope that they don’t think I am too flirty. It’s a good thing more people should do and like you “pass if forward” (:o}›

It doesn't happen often to me, but I do this for a lot of others.

Andrea if only more people would do that. Just don't seem to get that from people anymore. Great to know that there are still some great people in this World. Have a great Weekend Andrea.

Hi Mona, it can indeed! I do tell my girls all the time how pretty they look and hubby how handsome he looks in his uniform. But I don't think I've ever stopped a complete stranger on the street and complimented him/her .. I'll have to change that.

Hi Dana, it's the smallest things that can have the biggest impact. I feel strongly about passing on the kindness that was shown to me .. it's not an easy thing for me to approach a complete stranger but I'm going to jump over my shadow and just do it.

Hi Winston, good for you! I compliment my family but now I'm also going to make an effort to include strangers as well.

Hi Lanre ... the world would be a better place! We live in such a busy area and everyone always seems to be hurrying somewhere and have lots on their minds (like I did that day) .. perhaps that's what made this even more special. Thank you!

Hi Brenda, Thanks! I can't take credit for the Random Act of Kindness week but I'm going to participate. The point is to celebrate kindness and to make a conscious effort to pass it along. I really like the idea!

Hi Andrea, I can so see how that would have made not only your day..but week...or longer. That simple gesture will last not only with you for a very long time, but will probably last the same on those that you will touch in the same way. It is a testimony to how simple words can have a huge affect. Love this!

Hi Lisa, thank you! Every action has a reaction .. and positive actions will lead to positive results.

Hi Cindy, it was literally a 2 second encounter! Just one nice gesture or a kind word and a couple of seconds can make someone's day.. that's pretty powerful.
