The North Carolina Mountain State Fair arrived in Asheville, NC last weekend and we went to join in the fun on Sunday evening. The weather couldn't have been more perfect, it was sunny and 72 degrees when we got there and it was 58 degrees when we returned home. No humidity to speak of and no insects.
Our friend April went with us and we ate festival food, looked at the exhibits and rode a couple of the rides. One of the rides had cars that traveled over top of the Fair on cables. Leslie and April rode in front of me and I couldn't get them to turn around for a photo, so I had to be content with the back of their heads. I knew I'd never be able to talk Leslie into riding the ferris wheel with me but it turns out that April thought the wheel turned too fast for her tastes. No big deal, I'm a big girl and rode by myself. It was pretty glorious riding high above the fairgrounds.
Leslie played a couple of the games on the midway...shooting games, she's an excellent shot. She gave both of her prizes away to a couple of really cute kids.
This was the first year I'd ever been to this fair and I'm already looking forward to returning, now that we know where the best food vendors are and have a better idea of the grounds layout. What really struck us was all of the families having such a great time and everyone was so polite and friendly. The NC Mountain State Fair is in Asheville, NC every September for nine days and attendance is going to become a tradition for me for sure.
What job could possibly be better than bringing people together by sharing our common interests and learning new ones?
Here's my opportunity to introduce conversations and photos of the area I feel so passionate about...the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina.
