Going green. No paper property flyers. And wait, there’s more!
FLYERS
Last weekend was milestone in several ways
Over 100 groups of people came through my first open house at my newest listing. But not one of them received a handout. Instead, what they saw was the flyer in a beautiful frame. And in green print...
GOING GREEN! If you would like a copy of this flyer and disclosures, please email me, or have your REALTOR email me directly. We are not printing flyers as handouts.
Happily, they accepted that. I even got a few of them give me their names, emails and phone numbers for me to follow up.
DOCUSIGN
Docusign is one of the best innovations for the green movement in an industry where paperwork is mounting. It’s wonderful to be able to set up documents for clients to sign via email, and for these documents to be in turn sent or copied to other parties, also via email. When quicker responses are necessary, it’s great to know people can sign using their smartphone or ipad, too!
My files have gotten thinner, and thinner...my bag getting lighter and lighter. And I love it!
FILES
As everyone who has worked on short sales know, this is a paper intensive transaction. To avoid being deluged with reams and reams of paperwork, my clients and I have found easy solutions:
- For their documents on paper, we scan these and convert them to pdfs
- They can download their bank statements online, and email them to me as pdf attachments
- All files are in pdf format, and filed away in my computer, in the cloud, or in a flash drive.
- At close of escrow, I give my clients that flash drive with copies of the documents pertaining to their transaction.
EFAX
And when I need to send these documents to the short sale negotiators I send them via efax. Easy enough to write an email addressed to the fax number they designate, attach all the required documents as pdfs, and voila! I use MyFAX and it’s worth it
No paper!
SMARTPHONE/IPAD
When showing property, I don’t have to print paper copies of the MLS. Instead, since I can access MLS from my iphone or my iPad, I can pull up the information and show it to my clients. On the spot, I can also email additional information if necessary. Here’s a really good youtube video about using the ipad for real estate.
How about CMAs and listing presentation? I can prepare the CMAs/listing presentation ahead of time, and when meeting my clients, I can upload the CMA (from Dropbox for online file storage) --- and show them the information, and discuss it page by page if they wish.
APPS
And if the clients are ready to sign....depending on where we are or what we’re using, clients can use Docusign or SignMyPad
Love these innovations that enable us to function more efficiently, be quicker to respond and also be environmentally-responsible and friendly.

Sounds like you've got a good thing going with GOING GREEN. And becoming quicker, lighter, and happier on our feet!
Green is a good thing...we have whole Market Centers in Keller Williams that are paperless...and we too have utilized this as often as possible...for everyone's greater good...and the good of the planet !
You have presented quite a few excellent things that can be done to go green and reduce the paper used Pacita.
I stopped using a FAX MACHINE over 5 years ago and only use myFax and I am buying fewer reams of plain paper which is awesome!
Have a very special weekend with your camera in hand.
Congrats to you Pacita for taking advantage of technology to care for the environment!!
Michelle -- trying my best to do more
Sally and David - being green has so many benefits. As long as I have access to the internet, I can access my files anywhere. Even my computer is lighter. I am learning to do more with ipad, too :)
Tom - when I look at my files, and how thin my folders are, and once the transaction is closed, everything is on a flash drive....I smile :)
Wallace - isn't it great?
Roy - thankfully, even if I don't have my camera in hand, my iphone takes really good pictures
Peggy - gotta use whatever means there ar available to us, provided I learn how to utilize them
Pacita, Excellent, we have so many tools available where we can reduce the amount of paper we generate randomly. I can't wait for the day when we say you remember when we used to make flyers. I guess you can say that now.

Emailing flyers would be so much greener, for sure. But some sellers still want to see that printed info as handouts. We can do a few of those for that purpose.
But when one has a computer or an iPad at the open house, we can instantly email the flyer or link on the spot. Talk about instant gratification!
