Last Summer Weekend in Ocean City, New Jersey
Can it be true: "the last summer weekend in Ocean City, New Jersey? Let's look at "the signs." There are fewer cars on our street which is mostly second home owners where we live ... they are all back in "the real world." Maybe they'll be down for a few long weekends, but it is different now in our barrier island. The Boardwalk is almost clear most mornings for walking and biking. We've eliminated the accidents all over the place. And Asbury Avenue has slowly developed two new trends ... a lot more parking for cars and less people on the street. One significant factor remains: the dreaded meter heads are still on there. They won't disappear until after our October Block Party.
So yes, I may get down to the beach today after my "open house" work this morning and into the afternoon. Yes, it will be the Surf Road Beach ... and no, there will be a light turnout.
How about more good news!! The rest of the fall through much of October will bring warm afternoons that may involve taking a cover or sweatshirt along to the beach ... but it is a grand time around here in the early fall. I even enjoy November going for long walks over the Longport Bridge with less traffic coming and going if you know when to venture out there.
Even a trip downtown to the Sun Rose Bookstore is a delight at this time of year. And they have a 15-minute free parking in front of the store ... no fear for the dreaded meter heads. Maybe even a stop for some Ward's cookies or a piece of candy across the street at Rauhauser's.
Life is good at the shore after everyone leaves. Now don't get me wrong ... we miss them. But fall is a wonderful time of the year at the Jersey Shore ... even better in Ocean City, New Jersey!!!
