The "Day of Equity" is approaching FAST!

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Richard Weisser Realty

First Day of Fall 2012. Sunset by Richard Weisser. The specter ‘neath the lintel waits,
Then bursts full-force against the gate,
No bolt restrains, no lockset blocks
Tis Autunm’s looming eqiniox!
          (R Weisser 2012)

As the Earth continues its yearly journey around the Sun, we are approaching the semi-annual “Day of Equity!”

It’s an interesting phenomenon, as 363 days a year the tilt of the Earth upon its axis results in the number of daylight hours being determined by latitude.

But twice a year, the position of the Earth is exactly “flat” relative to the Sun, and every non-polar location enjoys equal hours of daylight and night!

The Ancients understood the significance of the event. They knew it happened, they just didn’t know WHY!

On September 22 2012, at 14:49 UTC we will all be on the same celestial footing!

And Autumn will OFFICALLY commence!

This morning felt like Sept 22 was already here.  It's always around the middle to third week of September that we see a change in tempatures.  Today was in the lower 60s when I got up.  I love it.  My favorite time of year.  Of course we always have an Indian summer.

Richard, great poem and photo, you never disappoint! I love fall, I am excited to see the show beginning, it is like the curtains are just opening. I have a hard time driving in the fall, I find  my eyes wandering to the scenery too much!

Thanks Richard.... very interesting facts.  Here, I was thinking you were referring to HOME Equity.  Sigh, we thought maybe there was "daylight" in the real estate market world, when homeowners were not upside down and had EQUITY!

Looking forward to the fall. . I was particularly impressed how the Aztecs used the equinox when building Chichen Itza in Mexico while visiting there. .

This is a most outstanding picture! I am going to try and paint this one tonight given the time. I really admire what you can do with a camera. Last Saturday I went to Fry's which is an electronic and computer store here in our area of Texas. I look at the cameras. Still just looking at them as they intimidate me somewhat.

Mike...

Here Fall starts when we eat Muscadine grapes! Grapes and apples are a taste of Autumn. THX

Dan...

For some reason, I like the dark! Thanks so much.

Kathryn...

To me, it means cooler temps. Yay! Thanks.

Andrea...

Oddly enough, until today the poems haven't really gotten much of a response. I think that the title of this post makes it hard to ignore. Thanks.

Dorie...

And I appreciate all of your support. Thank you so, so much!

Good morning Richard. I so love the fall colors but wish we could have them and warm weather too. Here in Michigan the equinox means hang on, it's going to get cold.

I also learned something new today! And September 22nd will be the FINAL day of our 3-day Greek festival, so we will celebrate more than one thing! We are delighted to see the temps dropping, but like Kathryn, I'm never happy about the loss of daylight!
