The Speckled Hen Brunch
Brunch at The Speckled Hen this morning was a new adventure for me.
I had read about the newer Grow Local Kitchen at the Nashville Farmers Market. I had also heard that on Sundays one could often have Brunch made by Rachel Hinson and Michael Moranshki of The Speckled Hen.
I over slept this morning and missed Church. It's something that I rarely do but we had dinner out with friends and I went to bed much later than usual. As I pondered my morning I started getting hungry for eggs.
I texted my brother but he never responded. I got in the car with the ruse of getting some errands done and headed downtown to the farmers market.
I wasn't sure why but Brunch and Farmers Market kept jumping into my conscious thoughts. As I wandered in the, near empty, building I came across the Community Kitchen in the center of the market.
The banner displayed said The Speckled Hen and the hand written sign described wonderful omelets and crepe dishes.
I immediately ordered the Roasted peppers, sauteed greens and goat cheese Omelet. Then I found a nearby table and watched while Michael prepare the most incredible meal.
While I was watching, more and more people came into the market heading directly for The Speckled Hen.
Breakfast ended up consisting of an Omelet of fresh eggs, greens, peppers and goat cheese, cheese grits and lovely toasted country bread. Yum.
What I soon discovered was that Rachel and Michael only searve Brunch at the market Seasonally. They buy all of their ingredients at local farms. They have a very strong Farm to Table Brunch and Catering business. They also make salads using local seasonal fruits and vegetables.
Next Sunday, September 23, 2012 is the last Sunday Brunch for this year. I can assure you I will be starting my at The Speckled Hen!
