Pirates Cove Restaurant Garibaldi Oregon
One of the coastal places I have often visited is Rockaway Beach Oregon. A few miles away is another little haven, Garibaldi. And just as you enter it, driving south on Highway 101, is a restaurant called Pirates Cove. The hours vary, but if you are willing to work with that, then you will find one of the best meals with stunning views that you can ask for along the Oregon Coast.
A single owner, Rick Rogers, works his butt off along with his daughter, Haley. I figure there’s a cook in the back, but these two do everything else at Pirates Cove. You get a slew of choices from breakfast to dinner. Prices range from $5-$16 for a HUGE breakfast with all the usual fare, from omelets to French toast, but also offers fresh caught fish, really yummy fruit (I suggest the side of fruit with breakfast—it’s enough to take home) and portions to make a traveler happy and full.
Lunch, which is what my husband and I had ranges from $3.75-$18, and once again, big portions, nice fresh fish choices….and wine! I had the blackened sea bass, along with a caesar dinner salad and a glass of Toasted Head chardonnay, their house white, which is nice and buttery with that oak barrel-aged taste…you can get it at Trader Joe’s.
Dinner at Pirates Cove can be everything from oyster shooters for $2.50 to Maine Lobster for $45.
The priceless item? THE VIEWS. Fabulous.
The day we were there, it started to fill up and as we sat there watching the boats on the water, some of the customers started talking about what looked like fire on the water! It was so odd.
I decided to take pictures. We all conferred with each other as well as asking the owner and his daughter. What could it be? Then we saw a helicopter flying over it.
As it turns out, it was most likely the National Guard (according to what we could surmise from the owner’s information) doing some practice runs in rescue attempts. It was quite far away, but someone noticed that there was a person who jumped into the water and it also looked like some rescue watercraft was lowered. It was all very exciting to watch while we ate—dinner AND a show!
