We may not be the entertainment capital of the world, but Northeast PA offers plenty of exciting options for nightlife. One of the current hot spots is The River Grille, which is part of the Waterfront Banquet Facility just off the Cross Valley Expressway (Rt. 309). Overlooking the Susquehanna River, it is already well known for spectacular waterfront weddings and scrumptious menus.

On the other hand, night time is where it’s at! I’ve spent a few at the Grille this summer, and they were all good. Some a little lazy, some a little crazy. And I have to admit, some of those nights still remain a little…hazy. But they definitely have one thing in common, a safe and sexy atmosphere that’s hard to find in the clubbier bars downtown.

Dress to impress because they don’t accept slackers. Plenty of well-lit parking, diligent I.D. scans and deliciously big bouncers welcome you to the party. The deck bar beckoned on a recent Thursday with hot summer goodbyes, so my gorgeous girlfriend and I took up the invite. Sometimes you just have to start the weekend a little early!

The inside bar is backed by a set of pool tables and rather mischievous DJ catering to the crowd, blasting out a wild mix of current hits and old-school classics that had us giggling and jiggling all night. You can take a seat at the bar or claim a table near the window to peek at the outside action. We chose the riverfront deck bar to soothe our end-of-summer blues. A strong dose of balmy night air and strong spirits was just what the doctor ordered, and their 9-11 happy hour delivered.

One of us drank, one of us drove, and we got the dosage just right. Ran into some old friends and talked up a storm. Then made some new ones with ummm, hurricane potential. The night ended with us taxiing a pack of stranded Belgians to their Hilton, and what a hilarious ride that was! Yummy accents and pure gratitude for the free ride home were backed by night cap and wedding crasher invitations we unfortunately had to pass on. Enough was enough, it was time to head home sweet home.

Come on, don’t be shy. Next time you’re in the mood for a little class topped with a little sass—stop wondering about it! Join us and put a little sizzle back in that fizzle, before you forget to use it, and then lose it. My friends and I are just waiting to see what you bring to the party!
