Raleigh, NC is one of the fasted growing towns in North Carolina and in the South. It is part of the North Carolina Triangle which is comprised of the Three Major Cities, Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill and The Three Major Universities in those towns, NCSU, Duke, and UNC. Raleigh continues to experience strong Economic Growth and Employment. Much of Raleigh's Employment can be found in Downtown Raleigh, Research Triangle Park, and throughout Wake County. The Downtown Raleigh Area is Thriving with Retail, Business, Medical Services, Recreation and Housing.


Facts About Raleigh:

Raleigh, NC is known as The Capital City because it is the Capital of North Carolina.

Raleigh is also known as The City of Oaks because of its vast number of oak trees. You'll often see an Acorn or an Oak Leaf as it's symbol. They even celebrate the New Year with the dropping of the Acorn. 

Raleigh was named after Sir Walter Raleigh.

Raleigh is located in Wake County.

Population: Almost 10 million people call North Carolina home. Of those over 400,000 live in Raleigh and almost 1 million live in Wake County making Raleigh one of the largest metropolitan areas in North Carolina.

Seasons & Weather: Many people move to Raleigh to experience its Four Season and mild weather. You experience a little of each season when you live in the Raleigh area.

Winter in Raleigh does turn cold but on average receive only about 7' of snowfall. You also have plenty of green landscaping, winter flowers and nice sunny days during much of the winter season. Winter temperatures usually don't go much lower than the high 20's and can go as high as the high 40's and low 50's. There's very little driveway shoveling and road plowing if any. You'll have many opportunities to enjoy the festivities of the Season. 

Spring in Raleigh is very welcome and is announced with a melody of birds chirping as they return to the area. In March average temperatures are low 30's to low 60's but, by the end of spring hitting the low 50's to high 70's. This time of year you'll begin to see trees flowering, flowers peaking out of the ground, baby animals emerging, and hear children's laughter outdoors. Many local towns will hold their spring art festivals.

Summer in Raleigh is full of fun and sun. The temperatures warm up, neighborhood and community pools are bustling with people, towns are holding summer and 4th of July celebrations and festivities, people are heading to the beaches for the sun & water or the mountains for cooler weather. The average temperatures for the day might be in the 70's but, there will be days when the mercury hits 100 degrees.

Fall in Raleigh can be a picture of beautiful colors as the leaves begin to change. If you can't get enough in Raleigh, you can head to the Blue Ridge Parkway which is just hours away. Football is definitely in the air when Autumn breaks through. Kids are back to school & university, schools sports begin, some trees start losing their leaves and the fire pits and fireplaces are lit. Temperatures are very enjoyable in the fall.

Cost of Living: Raleigh is one of the most affordable towns in America. However, as with anything, it's all relative. It's a good idea to compare the cost of living in Raleigh with the town you're moving from. You can do that with one of many moving calculators such as the one from salary.com

Taxes: I hear from many people moving from the North. One of the main reasons they tell me they want to move to Raleigh is because our taxes are lower. Property Taxes in Wake County are very affordable as compared with other States. You can check here for information on North Carolina's Income Tax. If you're looking to retire in North Carolina, you can check out all the tax rates at RLIC.

Crime: The Raleigh area boast one of the lowest crime rates around. This is something that's also relative based on where you're moving from. Your Real Estate Professional cannot discuss crime rates with you because they can't possible keep up with all the crime statistics and it would be an opinion. Raleigh Employers: Raleigh has a large Vast Array of Employers and one of the largest Business Parks in the South. Research Triangle Park (RTP) joins Raleigh and Durham together. Raleigh consistently ranks as one of the nation's best economic areas year after year. The area's Industy includes Information Technology, Advanced Manufacturing, Research, Education, Medicine, Game Development, Defense, Bio Technology, Pharmaceuticals, Energy, Entrepreneurship, and More. Raleigh is the Home of Many Large Employers and is growing consistently.

Education: The Raleigh Public School system is part of Wake County Public Schools which includes traditional and year round schedules. You'll also find magnet schools, charter schools, and specialty schools among the Wake County Public School System.

Private Schools: There are a large number of private schools in the Raleigh and surrounding areas.

Colleges and Universities: Many people move to the Raleigh area because of the schools. The Triangle (Raleigh) area is convenient to many schools and there are many other wonderful schools in North Carolina. For many student, there's no reason to travel outside of NC because you can find a top NC Universities and Colleges offering a huge variety of degrees and specialties.  There are also several top private universities in North Carolina.

Carla:  Cindy's right and so are you!  Raleigh is a great town and area.  We used to fly into Raleigh once-in-awhile when we came out to visit our son when he attended Virginia Military in Lexington, VA ... just a more inexpensive route upon occassion.  Beautiful beautiful area and one you should be proud of and have fun selling properties in!  Keep the great info coming ... we're hoping to return soon ...
