Where was this house? Sleuths, do you remember it? Searcy AR rock house.

I ran across this old rock house that once lived on a busy street in Searcy and we had it for sale.  One thing about those old listings that were put out by my former company was that they never gave the entire information about a house or property.

The ad was supposed to get the phone to ring.

At that time, no one could go online to find out the "rest of the story."

Now we are prone to just put the entire info in the ad because there are no secrets anymore.

So, Sleuths, test your memory and come up with the info on this pretty old one.

Thank you, Barbara for giving us another residence to sleuth.

Might this be the Dee  Southerland home, 909 E. Race, phone 1374.  It had a blue tiled roof, reminiscent of something in New Mexico.   There were several Sutherland children, one about my age was Carlton.

Am I wrong or am it wrong?

Well Mr. Google Man doesn't find anything like it at 909 E. Race now. I didn't know the Southerlands of Southerland Lumber fame.

Mary, that statement reminds me of my kid who used to say, "I didn't lose it.  I just can't find it."  LOl

Anita, since there is no address I can't verify the exact address but I'll bet you are warm in your guess.

Don, I don't know or remember the Southerland family or lumber company.  Perhaps someone else who does remember them will know if it was their house.

I"m pretty sure this is the Southerland house...and it was demolished, along with the Eva Thompson house. next door (going west) ...to make room for more strip mall shops OR by Harding.

Barbara, drive by there (909 E. Race) today, and take a pic. please.

I'll consult Dr. Muncey's book to see if the Southerland Lumber Company is mentioned.  Probably not, though. My '57 phone book has a half page in the "yellow" pages (they were white then)....Address:  D K & S Tracks,  lumber dept: call  l0 and building materials dept call 238.

come on, Sleuths:  help us out here.

Anita, 909 E. Race isn't far from Barbara's place of work. This is the approximate location.

909 E. Race

I can see one business across the street that is 914 E. Race.

Anita and Don, I do think you are right about the house and the location is definitely right.  Harding bought all the Race Street frontage along there and tore down the houses.  Tina Daniel was operating her real estate school in the building, I think, when it closed and she had to move.  Seems as if I remember real estate offices operating from here also.  We'll have to keep sleuthing and add info.  It was really a pretty good house when it went down.

Thanks, Don, for the current picture.  I am absolutely SURE the house is the Dee Southerland home.  I have spoken.
