Christmas Cards for the Troops

Yes, I know, it's only September but it is not too early to start thinking about Christmas for our troops who are stationed overseas, many of them in harms way and all of them separated from their families and loved ones.

A friend of mine shared some information about two military support groups that send out cards and care packages to our troops in just those places to give them a little bit of home for the holidays.

These groups are volunteer groups and you can help them in achieving their goals.

1.  The South Washington County Military Support Group says this about themselves:

"We gather as a support group to offer each other moral support, exchange information and promote awareness about our local military.  We support all our BRAVE men and women in all branches of the service."

Whether you have a family member in the military stationed overseas or whether you want to help to brighten someone elses day, the South Washington County Military Support Group has a great website with information on how to go about both.

Click on the link to find out more about the South Washington County Military Support Group and how you can help!

2.  The Marine Moms of Bethesda also have a great thing going.

They are sending cards to wounded soldiers stateside and overseas.  This is what they say:

"It’s that time of year and Marine Moms-Bethesda is gearing up for “Holiday Cheer” at Walter Reed and Richmond!"

How can you participate?  You can sponsor stockings or you can write cards (no glitter please, it could harm the wounded).  Their website explains how you can get involved! .

There you have it.  Two great organizations who can use your help in helping others!

Please spread the word and share this information with others as well as any clubs and service organizations you may belong to.

Let's make sure our military members feel thought of during the upcoming holiday season!

THANK YOU!

Hi Silvia,

This is such a great post and gives good ideas to all who reads it. I used to be a brownie leader and we would always send letters to the troops on all the holidays. I had a contact and would send them the stack and they would get there within a few days. I have sent care packages through the post office during Christmas too. Anything to make their stay easier is something we can all do.

Great Post!

David, that's about the time they need to be gathered and sent.  Sometimes it takes a while to get to their destinations.

Kristin, thank you.  These groups operate in a similar manner. They send stacks and they have all the names of the troops they are sending things to.  I think it's a wonderful thing to do.

Silvia, I have participated in these in the past.  Great reminder to get a jump before the holiday season gets crazy.

Silvia, this is a great idea, and have a client returning to Denver next month, but should get information to send his troops cards!

Kathy, I know, we get so busy that before we know it, time seems to be running short for all the things we need to do!

Joan, even better when you actually know someone whom you can send cards to but there are many who may not get very much mail.

Jane

Hello, Siliva! I just wanted to say thank you for sharing the information about Marine Moms-Bethesda's Holiday Cheer luncheons and ways to support the wounded, injured, and ill combat  Warriors and their families at Walter Reed/Bethesda and McGuire/Richmond VAMC through our card campaign and stockings!  Knowing people they have never met are keeping them in their thoughts during this stressful, life-changing time of their lives means SO much to them!  Thank You!

Jane, thank you for commenting on my blog post.  I do think that our military members and their family deserve all our support that we can give and more.
