This or something like it could be the car of the future.

The compressed air car! That's right compressed air, talk about green cars, I think this idea has a lot going for it. More than hydrogen which seems to be the future of the automobile if you look at what Detroit is thinking for the future. The Air Car, could be one of the biggest technology breakthroughs in a long time. They are not expensive and they don'pt pollute. The ultimate commuter car.

It looks like Tata Motors, India's largest car maker, will be manufacturing these some time in the future.

Let's hope Detriot jumps onto this bandwagon.

Michael:
We would not have to wait for a distribution system for new fuel to be put in place like any of the other systems; most gas station already have air pumps.  We would just need more of them.
How do you think the Insurance industry would reach, less chance of fire at an accident site.

Hi Michael - I had not heard of this either. It WOULD be nice to see Detroit get on with it! I wonder how they would drive on the snow covered/icy roads we have today? What do you think the oil companies have to say?

Mary, Would be great if Detroit got on it and I don't think the big oil would like this at all

Hi Michael... compressed air? That's a totally new idea to me for use as fuel, I think it's an awesome concept if it could be made commercially viable.

Don't jump the gun on this, It looks like a great idea, But Like any answer to the fuel question, You need to look past the retail level. just try finding a gas station that can pressurize a tank to over 4000 psi. That is what we are talking about here 300 BAR, that is in the area of 4351 psi.

We as a society need to just get our minds around the FACT that there is no such thing as a perpetual motion machine. No Magic is going to fix the energy problem. Hydrogen is still a way to store energy that in most cases was converted from solar into coal or oil by microbes and things like plankton and millions of years, then burned to release heat, to heat  steam, to turn turbines, to turn generators,  to  convert that energy into electricity,  zapped across the land on wires, then run essentially through water to break down H2O into H1, H1, O1. All of these forms are just batteries. Some batteries are great for transporting (electricity) some are good for storing (Hydro, yep the water behind an electric damn is a battery) some even offer size and mobility (gasoline, and soon if the petrochemical companies get their way, hydrogen). Don't let the "easy out" fool you into thinking we are out of the danger zone. NO FREE LUNCH! This is not to say that our big brains can't help. We just need to stay aware, and always ask "OK, But how?" and listen to the answers.

Whoa, I'm getting dizzy up on this soap box, I better get down before I fall. The car does look like a good idea, mostly because of the huge reduction in weight. That alone could be a big step in the right direction. I do wonder what one of the tanks looks like in a "dramatic decompression"?
