Bliz great post that touches on so much newer (and not so new) bloggers need to be aware of. I too am seeing way to many far right or left posts these days and I so look forward to them being gone in a few months, hopefully. One other thing I'd like to add is to always keep comments towards other agents and other professionals positive. I've seen way to muchsmaking other agents and that is a huge no no. Class dismissed!! You're so good at this!!
AB, When I scroll the blog roll there are certain people that seem to be all political, all the time. For some reason my mouse clicking finger never even twitches to click on their title.
Some folks are quick to judge others, without stopping to think that local practices vary significantly. Before raking someone over the coals, that understanding of variation needs to be understood. And if it's a consumer oriented post, even more reason to strongly consider putting a sock in it rather than typing that scathing comment.
In addition to your warnings - bloggers should be careful to temper their remarks on days when they're angry, frustrated, or down-in-the-dumps.
So often I read some mean-spirited remark - or an entire blog post - and think "I would never do business with that person."
When we write often, our personalities do come through, so people who simply ARE mean-spirited can't hide it. But why take a chance on writing one "nasty" blog or comment that a potential client might see and interpret as your personality without exploring your other posts?
Marte, We have to operate under the assumption that ONE comment or post will be used to judge us....and some days that assumption will be correct. I don't forget rude people easily.
Bob, Hopefully we can avoid some bloggers getting themselves in a jam.
All great tips, so thank you for today's lesson.
Kimo, We hold training every now and then :)
Dear Bliz,
Capisco!
I take all my own pictures and do all my own writing, but I have often wondered where to go for other art. Thanks for mentioning two sources. I will check them out. Have a great day!
Dorte, :)
Ellen, You're welcome! Always glad to help.
Are you talking about Phil Esterhaus of "Hill Street Blues?" Let's be careful out there.
But you are right - we must be careful out there!
Jay, That's the quote, and yes, we all need to be careful in the blogosphere!
Liz and Bill:
I can see that you have more admirers of your prose. It is understandable why someone would copy your posts word for word since they are so well written. However, that is plagiarism and a big no-no. This should be one of the post that newbies are required to read.
BLiz- love it, love it, love it. I've used iClipart since I started blogging and it is worth the yearly subscription, and even that isn't that much. (certainly less than the invoice you'd receive from Getty's attorneys. )
Evelyn, We try to do a good job with our writing, but still, everyone SHOULD know a complete copy/paste is a no-no unless the author has specifically been asked and granted permission. We've had people outside our market area if it was okay to include one of our posts in their marketing materials and we've never objected. The answer would be different if it was a local competitor.
Kathy, We'd heard about it quite a bit before we finally took a look at it. Once we did, it was obvious we needed that subscription :)
Hi,
This is sage advice!
We are indeed representing ourselves on an international level.
Have a fabulous weekend!
Wandanna, If we're doing things right, that reader is a potential buyer/seller. We need our best foot forward.
Liz and Bill, this is valuable advice for anyone who writes anything and publishes the content online.
Sharon, Thanks! We try to help where we can :)
