So you’ve decided you want to be an entrepreneur but have you put into place the elements required to be one and get there?  What’s your title, what’s your branding, where do you need to register your name, get your licenses?  Oh my, it can be overwhelming.  Perhaps you may need to splatter your thoughts on paper and pull a game plan together.  Below are some random logical thoughts on getting that business plan together.  Remember some elements remain the same but others may be very different depending on the nature of your business.

There are many sources out there to help you.  The Small Business Administration can help you get a jump start, often for free or at a low cost.

Things to take into consideration are:

·       Who is your target audience for your business?

·       Where are you going to make your contacts?  Will you be involved in community networking or participate in events?

·       When you make contacts, what is your schedule for follow up?

·       Who will fund your business?

·       Where is your office going to be located?

·       Who’s going to handle the bookkeeping?  What the heck do you need to keep so that at the end of the year you’ll have it together?

·       How are you going to market your business?  Brochures, business cards, portfolio, and the web are some suggested thoughts.  How much time are you going to spend in each effort?

·       Who are your vendor contacts?  These are going to be the people who help you set up your business location.  Perhaps you’re going to need to add furniture to your office or set up a store front.  Who’s going to help you?

·       Where do you want your business to grow in the first year, 2 to 5 years, etc?

·       For your business, will you need continuing education credits?  How are you going to get them?  Or, will you need to educate the public about your business?

Is your business plan up to date, or is it time to tweak it?  Are you planning your day and time or is it planning you? Whichever it may be, it’s time to get your game on.
