There are so many amenities provided by the Town of Addison, like the first class Addison Athletic Club, the superior "can do" attitude of the town employees, and the Addison events (Kaboom Town, Taste Addison, Oktoberfest to name a few), but if you want just one more, here it is: Addison's Fire Department annual smoke detector battery replacement program.

To participate in this event, call the fire department at 972-450-7228 to schedule a day and time in October. You must be home during the visit by the firefighters. Keep in mind, though, that 911 emergencies may cause a need to reschedule your appointment.

This is a FREE service provided to Addison residents. The fire department provides the ladders and the batteries.

I missed taking advantage of this program last year. One day this spring, I was awakened in the middle of the night by the sound of the beeping alert, letting me know the battery in the smoke detector had died. I won't let this happen again. I'm signed up for the free battery replacement in October.
