11 Comments on Real Estate agents, we just want a little respect.
I hate to say it, but sometimes I think that some in our professioni "train" buyers to call us 24/7. I'm with you, I want to work with buyer who respect my time and my professionalism.
Hi Tammy, nobody calls the car repair shop at 10 pm and expects their car to be serviced right away. Nobody calls a lawyer at night because 'they just have a question'? Why do some people expect Realtors to be available at a minutes notice? The best service takes lots of research and preparation..
We do go out of our way to help our clients - and they are the ones who deserve our full attention not the caller who is "working" with 5 different agents and thinks all we do is open doors.
Sometimes I think that people forget and get focused on themselves. I am sure they are purposely being inconsiderate (although there are some), but that they just don't know. There are literally folks out there who think we are waiting by the phone to open doors and are shocked to hear that we aren't lol :)!
Yes, I don't get why anyone would call someone after 9pm. It's just disrespectful for anyone or any profession.
It doesn't matter what business you are in, time is what we make available. Fortunately, I don't have to take appointment when I don't want them, but that wasn't always true. I am will to do my best to accommodate my clients, but they need to respect my time.
Good morning Tammy. There is almost nothing I won't do to help an good and nice buyer or seller. The others I don't deal with period. Great blog.
Tammy, as I get older I narrow down the list of people I am willing to work with..........I don't do late night phone calls unless we are getting close to closing and there is a reason. I don't do showings after dark or on Sundays, that is family time. If you are mean or negative, I don't want to work with you. It has to be a mutually respectful relationship to work.
We set the rules for ourselves and I'm the first to admit that sometimes I do pick up the phone when I shouldn't and open the door, but I'm getting better about it.
Funny thing about those buyers in the second category: I have found that they rarely actually purchase a home. Go figure!
Kathryn- that's really true.
Tammy, it all goes back to practicing the golden rule. Where would civilization be if we all did that?
