18 Comments on What is Mrs. Brown casserole?
Tammy, Mrs. Brown's Casserole has such a nice ring to it. At my house we just call it plain old hash brown & cheese casserole. Such a plain name for something so tasty. I think a renaming is in order.
Sounds good whatever you name it. Ohhhh, the calories though.
The recipe sounds yummy. I don't cook a lot but I am going to give this recipe a try this weekend. It sounds so good and it seems it would be quick to mix up. It's lunch time and I wish I had a big helping of that dish now. Just reading the recipe made me hungry.

Casseroles are my favorite thing to cook, easier and quicker. Thanks for sharing this yummy recipe!
That sounds really good Tammy. I'm on my way!
Thank YOU! Tammy, this sounds delicious. Guess what is for dinner tonight. Out the door to the store for some hash browns. You are a gem. And, I loved your explanation!
Tammy, thanks for sharing, I enjoy cooking and this sounds like it will be easy and tasty......gonna put it in the menu soon. ~Karen
Personalizing the recipe would help me to remember what it was I was referring to. I'm wondering if I could leave the cream of mushroom soup out of this dish....long story about my distaste for cream of mushroom soup. Looks like a yummy recipe though otherwise
This looks a good fall comfort food meal. I don't cook but my lady does thank goodness. And we'll replace the beef with ground turkey. Sounds yummy!
It's a great sounding dish and almost reminds me of Shepard's Pie but only with hash browns. Now that fall is here heating up the oven has a nice ring to it.
Hi Tammy,
I think it is wonderful you name your dishes the way you do! It sounds great and as Kerrie says..wonderful fall comfort food!
Wow! Mrs. Brown's casserole sounds tasty and best of all it's must easy since you called it 'easy peasy.'
I am going to add this one to my recipe box. Thanks.
Mary- I love easy
Dorie- I like it too. It makes them personal and when I pass them on to people I tell them about the person it came from. Food connects people.
Carla- it's my "perfect" day kind of weather here right now. Warm days, blue skies, lots of sunshine. The leaves with just a hint of starting to turn and temps getting just over 80, but evening cooling down to a comfortable 70 and on the forecast we're expecting lows below 60 for some crisp mornings. Perfect oven weather.
Kerrie- it's also good with ground chicken and you can certainly use the fat free soup and you can switch to cream of celery or cream of potato... I also cometimes toss in a can of diced green chilies to spice it up a bit
Brian- I'm sure you could substitute something, and I suppose it could be left out completely too. In fact maybe a nice heaping spoon of sour cream would be good in there.
Karen- I love easy dishes. As a mom who has always worked I needed quick and easy.
Don- hope you like it. We love it around here.
Jared- we do still have some leftovers in the frig.
Beth- some of mine too. I love veggie casseroles.
Betty- I had a really busy day getting a lot of CMAs out that I did this week. Skipped lunch then went to the super market hungry... such a mistake.
Tanya- it's not so bad if you use the turkey and fat free cream of soup and low fat cheese.
Debbie- I have a "hashbrown" casserole that doesn't have the meat in it. I like that too.
I just bought a Southern Living Casserole Cookbook today. This sounds delicious! I'm making it tomorrow night for dinner. Thanks Tammy.
I love trying new things. Food network is my favorite station and I often go home and try to make what I had out somewhere.
Tammy
The casserole recipe sounds good and looks even better.
Good luck and success.

Tammy, saw the re-blog on Suzanne's page, and YUMMY, this does sound perfect for a cold Denver night, soon --- like this weekend!
Tammy, I love how you name these dishes. I have done the same thing for years!
