It’s 3pm on Friday (at least on the East Coast) – that means the weekend is almost here! I figured I would end this busy week together with a light post about an important email acronym that’s saved me a lot of time, especially when communicating with people within my company.
It's no secret that email is one of the most commonly used communications platforms and has grown substantially within the real estate realm. Have you ever gotten an email with EOM in the subject line, but had no idea what the user was trying to tell you? I know the first few times that I saw this in my inbox I was pretty confused, but after learning what it is and how to use it I can wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking to improve their email efficiency.
EOM means “end of message” – it’s that simple! By attaching EOM to the end of a subject line, usually one that is quick and to the point, you save yourself and your email recipients valuable time. Not only do you have to write a more detailed and redundant explanation for something that doesn’t need one, but also you reduce the flow of unnecessary lengthy emails, saving everyone time. It also requires you to be more creative with your subject lines – think of it as a creative writing exercise! Finally, you ensure that your reader will ACTUALLY read the entirety of your email because it’s so short!
One last benefit: EOM can help you decide what is and isn’t appropriate for email. While one line may not be totally sufficient to get your message across, if it can’t be summarized at a high level in your subject line, it might be more appropriate to schedule a phone call or in-face meeting.
Have you ever used EOM? What do you find yourself using it most for?
