This southern Utah real estate agent works weekends! Do you?

Most of my clients are from out-of-the-area and fly or drive in on weekends to view homes due to time constraints during the week. I accommodate their needs because that is part of the service provided.

While preparing a home tour on Friday for clients coming in from out-of-town, only 2 out of 10 listing offices responded. I then had to show homes that were vacant/keyboxed in order to accomplish the goal set forth.

As agents, we have the freedom to choose our own work hours based on our own individual business models and even forgo working weekends. To each their own but please:

  • answer calls
  • return calls
  • and check emails

There are people conducting business outside of Monday thru Friday work hours! If I declined working weekends, I'd miss out on a lot of client opportunities and business.

Do you work weekends?

Wanda,  Yes, I work weekend and evenings.  I do whatever it takes to meet the needs of my clients and to provide exceptional service. I could not agree with you more.  Agents need to be responsive by answering their phones and email.

Heck I even work weekdays!  lol  I have a client that is working 12-16 hour days. He calls me at 2 am when he gets off of work.  He also works 7 days a week.  He is saving for a home.  I admire his goal and the ability to pursue it.

Wanda, assumptions to work on weekends is good - it's just not true for everyone, though! It does not mean you can't show homes on the weekend, btw!

Hi Wanda,

I bet your clients really appreciate the fact that you are accomodating what they need and since you had trouble getting other agents to answer their phone even on a Friday, I bet you have more clients than other local agents.

Working weekends will ensure you don't miss some business opportunities. So would working 24 hours a day. I don't work Sundays and try to work only 1/2 Saturdays. I like having a life outside of real estate. Real estate is my job, not my life. D I miss opportunities, sure, but I don't care. Dim get to give my wife and family the attention they deserve, most definitely! It's all an individual choice. You're not wrong and neither am I.

Wanda, agents who do residential real estate have to work weekends and holidays. That is when a lot of people have the time off to look at homes.

Kathleen, Answering the phone lends to cooperation which in turn leads to offers.

Bill, Wow! I am sure he will achieve his goal!

Tammie, People sound surprised sometimes when I answer mine!

Praful, I am glad to be able to make it work for my clients!

Thanks Roger! I used to work only weekdays but that was when I worked for someone else. I am much happier on my own AND working weekends!

Judi, Putting clients first in business helps to create solid relationships!

Greg, Good for you to be able to avoid working weekends! I put my family before all else and still work weekends.

Michael, I don't mind and if clients are only able to look on the weekend, then why not accommodate them?

Goran, Take a few days off then and relax!

And some people don't work after 9:00 pm or 8:00 pm or 7:00 pm or when do they really work? And then there are the less than full t . . . but that is another whole issue that we won't address here.

Love the comments and your responses back.  Bottom line:  "Putting clients first in busines helps to create solid relationships."

Congratulations on FEATURED post, Wanda.

Yes, I work Saturdays and Sundays, but over the years, I've become better at scheduling things.  Now that the weather has gotten (somewhat) cooler, I'm taking some Saturdays off to spend with my husband and grandkids.  He always plays golf on Sunday, so I don't mind working Sunday afternoon.  That sometimes works better for the clients who have dance, football, karate, etc, etc on Saturday.  But I won't waste a Saturday on "pop up" buyers who call and have to see a house within the next 10 minutes.  Those this hardly ever work out.

Although I work in a resort area. People are out looking for homes seven days a week and I would have very little business if I didn't accomodate their needs. I've become used to it over the years and quite honestly it does not bother me. I do open houses during the week as well as weekends. For showing on my listings I ask other agents to contact me so that I can set up appointments for them to show my listings. I don't have to worry then about a receptionist screwing up my showings and I'm always available to take the calls.

Wanda:  Not sure how you can exist longterm in this industry, if you do NOT work weekends.  That's kindof when all the "action" takes place.  The rest of the week is paper shuffling time.  Not always, but I would say in the higher percentage that holds true.  Totally understand that ALL must take some break or down time once in awhile to maintain sanity and good health, but never work on the weekends??  Suicide!

BTW ... you have a double living in Cincinnati.  You're a mirror image of my sister-in-law.  So if you ever need a stand-in on a weekend ... I know a twin you can call!!

Of course I work weekends!  The best schedule for selling is the one the new construction model home people use - They are only open for showings Saturdays, Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays.  they take off Wednesday Thursday and Friday.  Probably a good schedule for everybody in Real Estate - The New Home sales people KNOW waht they are doing!

I totally work weekends, and steal a day off during the week if I can, to R and R.

What I dearly wish was that more [especially commercial] LENDERS would  make themselves more available for business on weekends.

Gary, We have that in common and I bet your clients appreciate that!

Richie, Great analogy as usual!

Thank you Mary! It makes sense to accommodate clients when possible!

Jeanne, A schedule helps to create less conflict in our personal lives. Agreed!

Susan, That is a great way to streamline appointments! No confusion at all.

Gene, I work during the week as well but keep weekends open. If I have prior plans or a trip planned, then I know people who will also step in and help on the weekends! A twin, serious? I'd love to see a pic!

Debbie, I was just at a new construction site this morning talking to a builder about a home. 4 on and 3 off, not a bad schedule at all!

Thanks Sharon, you know it!

THAT is a BIG wish not sure that will ever happen Candice. They like their bankers hours!
