Hunter Army Airfield is located west of the Savannah downtown area. There are plenty of shops, restaurants, and two malls near the entrances of the airfield.

Hunter Army Airfield is actually part of Fort Stewart. They are combined to provide a force capable of deploying anywhere in the world. Hunter is home to the 3rd infantry division, including the "marne division's" aviation  brigade. It has a runway that is 11,375 feet long. This runway supports the rapid deployment needs of any aircraft. It is also the reason Hunter was chosen as an alternate landing site for NASA space shuttles.

Along with growth in surrounding areas, Hunter is growing as well. With increasing numbers of soldiers coming, Hunter needed to be expanded.  There are homes being built to accomodate these soldiers and their families. Hunter has a new bigger better commissary and exchange. There are, however, no schools on Hunter Army Airfield.
