no climbingSTONE.  It's all the rage now.  Granite counter tops.  Stone fireplace surrounds.  Flagstone walkways, pool and patio decks.  Stone is everywhere but inside my shoe!  Ah, but wait...let me preview some properties, and I'm sure that no stone will be left - UNUSED!!!

Alright.  Stone is nicer than ceramic.  Stone gives an earthy, natural feel to interior decor.  Stone is cool in the summer in AZ.  Is it okay to throw stones in a stone house?

Today I'm not really talking about stone, I'm talking about Bad Remodels and how a design element can be over-used to the point of absurdity.  In my area, stone seems to be the weapon of choice when destroying an interior with "style".

Most often I will see the fatal wounds in the kitchen and the bathroom, where over 3 styles of stone have been used to plaster (heh) the walls, counters and back-splashes.  I feel as it there is some kind of Da Vinci code secreted in this overabundance of clashing styles, colors, and textures.  Is this a new way to hide water spots by confusing the eye with a cavalcade of clashing caulk-bait?

Last year I paid a visit to the home of one Mr. Fred Flintstone.  Mr. Flintstone used 5 types of stone in the kitchen, the family room, each of three bathrooms, and the front yard and walkway.  Each area had 5 unique types of stone that were different from every other place in the house!  I'm wondering how much slate he used to figure out this design?  Yabba-dabba-don't!!!

This year I crept through a mausoleum. The entire house was done in ceramic tile.  The kitchen and bathroom got an additional layer of tile and stone on the walls, so you wouldn't have to look down to see the SAME TILE.  It was not enough.  Two interior walls were done in stone (lest a zombie escape) and mirrors (lest a vampire escape).  But we must be certain --- the front walkway was marble, including a driveway spot (for the death-chariot to park, duh...).  Ok, next time I visit, I will bring flowers.  Or garlic.

Maybe next week I'll see a home build with six foot stones, like a pyramid...???

What an adventure!!!

Maybe the owners were "stoned" when they remodeled?!?  Ya just never know what people are thinking when stoned!
