This is the first time I've re-blogged a post that's nearly 10 months old, but in re-reading it tonight I noticed something that I apparently didn't notice the first time around - an answer to a question I've had.

The anwer is in the comments - and since that discussion is so good, I do suggest you follow the link back to Tammy's original post to read the whole thing.

Meanwhile... In comment #5 Tammy gives the answer to "How much has to be different for Google to see a post as new?" She says 30%.

Now when I want to post the same idea on both AR and my other blog, I won't be so worried about changing everything.

Finding topics to blog about might get you in a bind once in a while and you may tend to think, "well I already wrote about that last year". But the truth is, Google is constantly looking for fresh content and relevant information so what you wrote last year is not going to be near as important as what you wrote about today.

This is why digging up old posts and giving them a face-lift is so crucial to staying active online. Even if you already wrote about it and thought you did a pretty good job, if there is no longer any activity on it or it doesn't get the views it once did, Google is not going to recognize it as relevant and fresh.

What does this mean for your plethora of blogs you have built up?

I think of Debbie Gartner... that woman knows flooring and every time I see her posts, its almost always about flooring. I didn't know you COULD write that much about flooring but somehow every day there is a new post about flooring for her area. She may have written a post about the same thing last year... but again, that's LAST YEARS NEWS. What about flooring this year? It could be very similar but because it was written today instead of last year, people are more apt to want to read about it and know about the latest in that particular flooring.

The same goes for real estate and that's probably why market reports do so well on the SERPS (search engine results pages - I know, you always wanted to know what that meant, right?) These market reports are fresh content with new stats and every time you post something new, Google eats it up. So what if you're talking about appraisals in the Yakima real estate market... if you wrote about it last year, there is bound to be something different this year. Change up the title, refresh the content and send it out into the cyber world once again. What about new events or just THIS year's event? Maybe there's new information on Golf Courses in Vancouver that you didn't know about last year!? Keep posting that information and refresh the title. Google will see when it was published and count it higher than the same one you did just last month.

Sure, there are exceptions but it's usually because that post is still getting activity. You may have that crazy, lone post out there that for some reason gets 30 hits a day from somewhere. If so, that's great! Drag out the ones that have gotten swept under the rug; re-vamp them; refresh them and re-publish them - OR write a new post about the same topic.

You want to ALWAYS be the one that comes up for whatever it is you are selling. Get out there and blog about it - and then blog about it again! Blog on!

Marte - Smart reblog.  I've always heard 20%, but the truth is no one really knows.  I've heard in particular that you should change the title, first line and last line.  I often change the google map (I have 2 that are similar - one for Westchester hardwood flooring and the other for Westchester flooring), so that's an easy swap and often I'll change some of the alt tags/text in the pictures.  I'm not sure if I change mine enough, but often it seems to work.

Hi Marte.... great post to reblog..... when one markets a subdivision, there are only so many posts that can be written, yet we need to keep writing.... I try to change as much of the content as possible, but it's all very similar.... so far, they still get indexed.
