I've come to love the Active Rain community in the last few weeks that I've joined and started participating.  However, I have a question.

Do any of you who are VAs use Localism to try and expand your client base?  If so, how do you do it?  I know how the realtors are using it but as a VA, I'm clueless how it will work.

Thanks in advance!

I do not know if my conception would be correct, but let me ask who do you wish to market to? I am new to AR as well, so welcome from one newbie to another. My belief is that Localism would be to the general public, so if you are casting a broad net in that direction maybe it would be wise to post there. If you are considering Realtors and other real estate professionals as your market, would not posting to the AR community be the best choice? I may be misunderstanding Localism, but this does appear to be the case.

Hi Renae~ Although I don't actively use Localism for my business, I still think it could be used as a marketing tool for you. For example, when you publish a blog post, you have categories that you click that will go directly to Localism, especially posts about listings, or area/community information. So if you start writing blog posts in terms of creating localized content, I think it would be perfectly ok to post to Localism. Your AR profile will come up as well as links to other srticles...so in short...I say go for it. Just double check terms of use to avoid breaking any Localism rules:)

I'm so tickled at how addicted you are becoming:)

Frank - My target client is realtors and other real estate professionals.  Hence my dilema on posting to Localism.  I just couldn't figure out how to do that on a local level.

Laura - So, should I post blogs that specifically pertain to my local area of Cleveland, Ohio?  If that is the case, how will that help me broaden my horizons outside of Ohio?  (BTW, I'm lovin AR!!  I wish I had joined sooner!)

Renae~ Yes, Localism is primarily set up for agents to really target the reading base of the consumers in their areas. So as a VA if you are looking to broaden your base, ActiveRain is really the side you should focus on. Blog with the purpose of creating real connections with people here in the rain, (just like in your featured post:) Reciprocate on the blogs of those who comment on yours, and before you know it you'll be rockin with new friends AND leads!

Laura - Thanks for clearning that up for me.  I think I will just stick to the AR side and focus on making contacts that might lead to clients here.  Thanks for the help and encouragement!

Reach more agents on Active Rain by posting really good content and/or using really catchy titles.

Hi Renae - As a VA, your primary market is all of the agents and lenders right here in the Rain. While you probably wouldn't post to Localism, you could still write about it -- maybe some tips or examples about how other agents are using it successfully. And that knowledge will come in handy as you pick up more agent clients.

Vickie - I'm definitely going to do that!  Thanks for the advice!

John - That's a good idea!  I want to use what I learn here in the AR communiy to the best of my ability but I realize that this may mean teaching agents how to make the most of AR.  Thanks!
