I remember it well, 20 years ago our family was sitting down for breakfast and a call came from downstairs, "Dad, is there suppose to be water down here?" Downstairs we found water coming in fast and quickly flooding our basement. At the time it was a crisis. Getting on the phone to call who? We had not had a sewer backup problem before and did not have a contact on speed dial to call for help.
If you have been through this you know what i mean. If you have not be glad. Here are a couple of things we discovered that can be helpful.
- Have a good name & number to call. Here in Colorado Springs call Pro Power Rooter Service at 719-331-3071. Not only do they do emergency calls to diagnose and help solve problems but have the video camera to run through a line to do a check-up.
- Have your lines cleaned/serviced once a year just for routine maintenance.
- If you are looking at a house to buy find out if the current owners have had any trouble with their sewer line and/or have that as part of your inspection if you are concerned.
- Get sewer backup insurance on your homeowners policy.
Sewer backups are no fun and the clean up / repair can be costly.
