DFW Night on the Town: Hard Eight BBQ in Roanoke TX
My husband and I had the rare opportunity to go out for a date night and we decided for convenience sake to where our sitter lived to go to downtown Roanoke. Oak street is the main drag here with some shops and restaurants, the ever present water tower and even more fronting highway 377. Being the photographer that I am I told my husband I wanted to come here for our date night but also and I quote “at sunset I would like to take a lot of pictures.” I had to prepare him in advance so he wouldn’t just be standing around while I changed settings and took multiple exposures since it was “OUR” night.
We parked at the end of the street and went into the Hard Eight Pit BBQ. I had heard great things about this place. Here in Tx most BBQ places you stand in line and wait your turn for the absolute freshest food right off of the grill/out of the smoker. Then you go inside and get your sides and desserts and drinks. We weren’t entirely hungry yet so we opted for a beer (just missed happy hour pricing for $2.50) and sat outside on the patio. The smell of the wood smoke was nice and they had fans blowing so it wouldn’t be too pervasive. A two man band began playing some blues music and we enjoyed watching others, talking to each other and sipping a cold one. We listened as the train blew its horn as it went by on the nearby rails.
I wish I could say that we ate here. A lot of friends have said this Roanoke location has the best BBQ in DFW. Even their website says "Come in for the fall-off-tha bone ribs, mouth waterin’ brisket or maybe the slap-yo’-gran’ma- good banana pudding" but we decided to walk on and see what the rest of the street had to offer us before we settled on a choice. I will be updating this blog with the next installment of the evening, so please bookmark this page or subscribe to my blog for more!
Take care,
Amy
