With the election coming, forget your political party.  Do you know the history of our country.  Most people only remember 5th grade history.

This was shared with me by a fellow co-worker. It really is educational as to what our government was set up to be by the founding fathers. I hate watching a 10 minute video, but I will tell you that this one really is worth it. In the end, it scares me the path that our country and government is heading. I've been nervous through both party administrations. Now, things seem to be escalating.

I warn you that it is 10 minutes, but it really is a high school government class video. Let me know what you think. It's still not too late to make the right changes to our country's direction.

Excellent Post.  You have definitely touched on an important subject.  In an age when the mass media distorts what seems like everything, it's no wonder why people cannot tell what is important.  Nonetheless, I believe America will Survive.

My son...who is a college Senior has an unusual idol and hero for this day and age... Ben Franklin. Think we need a few more of these type of idols in our young adults and childrens lives and less of the ones we see on the tube or youtube.

OK maybe long at 10 minutes but it was factual, accurate and the 10:35 seemed like it took about 2 mins to watch it. Very sad very scary and the worst is how many scream for what they want and what they are ENTITLED to and that very thing WILL enslave them!

Larry:  I did watch the entire video, and commented on both re-blogs.  I am not coming to your original post... and was hoping to see all kinds of things going on here.  Comments all over the place... a decent degree of "pot-stirring"... and so forth.  No such luck, but it's early in the game... so maybe things will develop.

I don't know if there currently IS a "Civics" class being taught in high school.  I remember when I was in high school... in one of those red brick single room high schools from way back... LOL... one of the required classes as a Senior was Civics.  An entire year of it.  I even remember the teacher who taught it.  And that was in 1961.  Yikes.

I thought the video was quite interesting in calling Democracy... "mob rule."  But, thinking about it... it IS true.  Of course, one person's "mob" is another person's "concerned group of citizens."

Personally, I thought there was much more of a Mob Rule atmosphere in this country from 2000 to 2006... than there is right now.  Right now we have Gridlock.  Nothing gets done.  And... it is not rule by the majority... it is rule mainly by Mitch McConnell and his filibustering 47 Republican Senators in the Senate.

Since it takes Sixty Votes to get anything to come to the Senate floor to be voted on... even though he is "the Minority Party..." he determines what happens a great amount of the time.

Although I very much dislsike how the filibister is being mis-used and abused by the Republicans... I cannot think of a better way to do it... or else we end up back at that Mob Rule type of Democracy the video displayed.

Larry... I hate to be negative about your comment in your post... but this is one thing that is so wrong about our current state of things.  This video is ONLY ten minutes long.  Sheesh.  If we as a people cannot invest TEN minutes in an effort to improve our country and our government... heck... we get what we deserve.

Ten minutes for this... is nothing.  Just look at how much time has been wasted by so many on the "missed call" on last night's Monday Night Football game.  Where is the sanity in that lack of balance?

I'm a big fan of less government combined with less lobbying from big business.... that doesn't fit with either party.
