I think a lot. And today I started thinking about all the folks getting out of the real estate business.

We keep seeing these blog posts about failing real estate businesses and how slow the market is. I don't know about you, but it makes me really sad when I think about it.

I feel so sorry for those individuals who have worked hard and are now facing the fact that they may have to shut their doors. These folks had hopes and dreams for their businesses.

I know they didn't go in thinking they were going to fail, did they?(It even saddens me when I see 'regular' businesses close shop, such as a rug store, a furniture shop, a coffee shop trying to compete with Starbucks and the larger chains, etc.)

Here are a couple of blogs I read recently that really stuck with me:

Let's have some compassion! And perhaps say a little prayer that our comrades make it through these difficult times. If it were me, I know I would want prayer and support.

Your feedback is welcome...

Darleen:

I see too much "generalized bashing" of agents that are leaving the business. Isn't ActiveRain suppose to be a network to support and edify others?

All of these agents did NOT enter the business to make quick money. There are some agents that entered into this business to realize their dream of owning their own business. Hopefully, the AR real estate gurus and self-made real estate millionaires would not paint all these agents with a broad brush.

Yes. There are agents that enter the industry for (in my opinion) the wrong reasons or with bad intentions.

However, that does not apply to all of these agents. Darleen -- Let me quote you....

"Let's have some compassion! And perhaps say a little prayer that our comrades make it through these difficult times. If it were me, I know I would want prayer and support."

Thanks AGAIN Darleen for sharing your thoughts.

Hi Darleen - Great perspective on the challenges many in our industry will face this year. There could be any number of circumstances that cause agents to make a change. By being respectful and compassionate we can help that change go smoothly, and who know, we may work together with them again sometime in the future.

David ~ Yes, we need to have some compassion for people going through difficult times. It could be someone else today and us tomorrow. What happened to the Golden Rule of treating others the way we'd like to be treated?

Hi Darleen,
I agree with John that different circumstances determine what kind of decisions agent must make.  We have responsibilities that we must take care of and each of us have to decide the best way to do that.

John ~ Exactly. And in life, we never know who we're going to need. Those agents who are leaving the business may be in a position to help either one of us in the future. Just because someone is "down" today doesn't mean they'll always be down.

Amen, Darleen.  We must be compassionate in all of our dealings with mankind.  The person standing beside them gloating may be just a paycheck away from having their door close on them.

Cynthia ~ Hi. Yes, we each have to make decisions about what's right for our families and individual circumstances. I just hate to see all the bashing - and the folks who say things like "Glad you're out of the business, etc." I think that's the scarcity mentality. There are more than enough customers for all of us.

Latonia~ It saddens me that folks aren't more compassionate. Are we so competitive that we are unable to "feel" for what others are going through.
