My Secret to Getting "Likes" on Facebook

Well, it really isn't a secret. Especially if you've already "liked" our Facebook page you'll know that I offer a free eBook download for a "like." (see thumbnail)

Now I'd like to show you how to set up your own free eBook download. Deal? :)

What I currently use is the Static html: iframes tabs app (formerly known as a "Like" gate). Once the app is installed on your Facebook business (/fan) page, you can then add the appropriate html code to set up an eBook download.

HOW TO CREATE AN EBOOK

It's really not hard to create an eBook. Of course, you need some original content to start with. If you're a blogger, you could grab a list of common posts you've already written and combine those. (For an example of an eBook I did with all Holiday posts, click here.)

Once you have your content, you need to get it into a Word document or you can use Writer from the OpenOffice.org program that is available for download for free from the web.

If you are going to be using hyperlinks in your eBook, you will want to use OpenOffice instead of Word. When you are ready to save your eBook in OpenOffice, you can export it to a PDF file which will keep the hyperlinks "live."

On the other hand, if you are using Microsoft Word, what I do is I print the document to a PDF file using PDF995. Then I use the merge PDF function at FoxyUtils to combine pages especially if I have a cover. (I created the cover for the Holiday Posts eBook using Microsoft Publisher. I then printed it to a PDF file using PDF995.)

HOW TO MAKE YOUR EBOOK AVAILABLE ON FACEBOOK

The next steps include uploading the combined PDF (eBook!) somewhere on the web so it's accessible. Dropbox.com is cool to use for this because they allow for a Public Folder that assigns urls (web addresses) to each file. This url (web address) can then be used as the download link on your Facebook page. (Scribd.com is another hosting site where you can place your eBook and get a url ~ and embed code, too!)

Lastly, you're gonna want to add your eBook link from Dropbox or Scribd to your Static html app on Facebook. And rather than explain all that, I thought I would just make my code available to you to use (see boxes below).

Of course, you're going to need to create your own Welcome (Let's Connect) image to replace mine, etc. And so what I've done is I've PUT IN ALL CAPS the areas of html code you'll want to change to your own.

HOW TO PROMOTE YOUR EBOOK

After you're all set up, you can copy the web address that goes directly to your Welcome "Public Content" tab and head over to tinyurl.com to make a custom web address to point to your Welcome tab. (Ours is: http://www.tinyurl.com/sprebook) Then you can promote your free eBook download on all your social media platforms.

Here's how I tweet ours:

“Like”our Facebook page to download FREE eBook (10 best blog posts-Volume 1): http://tinyurl.com/sprebook Thanks for connecting with us. Click to Tweet

I hope this info was helpful to you as you offer your own eBook to get "Likes" on Facebook. :)

This is a great article but is way over my head at the moment.  I've bookmarked it for future reference.  Thanks for sharing!
