Mrs Olson’s Coffee Hut in Oxnard

Mrs Olson’s Coffee Hut in Oxnard was named one of the “20 Best Breakfast Restaurants in America” by the editorial staff of LocalEats, described as America’s No. 1 paid dining app and available for iPhone and IPad users.

I first heard about Mrs Olson’s when my parents came to visit me from Wisconsin. Seems my father’s brother’s wife’s sister worked there  (real simple someone worked there that had a connection to someone my father knew).  And because of this connection we went to Mrs Olson’s to say “Hi” to this person and that is how I found out about Mrs Olson’s Coffee Hut in Oxnard, oh so many years ago.

When I first went there, Mrs Olson’s Coffee Hut was owned by the original owner Corrine Olson, who named it after her mother, Helen. Helen was known for pies, fish and chips, and greeting patrons with a perpetually fresh pot of coffee. Helen Olson was  also the inspiration behind Mrs. Olson's Potatoes, still on the menu and made with garlic salt, paprika, Parmesan cheese and a touch of bacon fat, said assistant manager Jacque Hernandez as stated in the Ventura County Star.

Tom "Brim" Brimigion now owns Mrs Olson’s Coffee Hut. Tom “Brim” is Brimigion, a former Los Angeles police officer who served in the Marine Corps. If you are lucky and find “Brim” at the restaurant midday on a Sunday, you will hear him play  a recording of "God Bless America", a tradition he started after 9/11.

Mrs Olson’s Coffee Hut is located in the Hollywood Beach area of Oxnard, this low keyed restaurant does get crowded, on the weekends but the food and service is worth the wait.

Located at 117 Los Altos St. (map), a few blocks from Hollywood Beach School, the restaurant is open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily.
