The DoD HAP Program Comes To An End On September 30, 2012

Margaret  There was a huge announcment from the White House in April geared to all of the large lenders providing short sale relief for military families similiar to the HAP program.  Yet calls to most of them come back with "it takes time to implement these programs" or we have no idea.

Brenda-yes it was a good program for our soliders and when Congress didn't extend it or provide additional funding last year it was obvious the end was near.

Sharon-the purchased date was prior to July 1, 2006 but the PCS order dates went until Sept 30, 2010 so it covered a wide range.  You are right in some areas the market didn't fall until into 2007 or 2008.  Short sales and VA compromise sale or being a landlord are the only options as of now.

Jackie-at some point it has to come to an end.  There are going to be some service members who have their homes up for sale now under the program with no offer that may be surprised by the Under Contract or Sold by date of September 30, 2012.

Ginny-hope yours goes smoothly.

Jay-it is for active duty military, wounded vetrans and surviving spouses.  I imagine you support any program that helps them.

Michael-it had an end date but at one point a service member could still sell their home after the September 30th deadline.  I have one under contract with funding approved so am thankful we made the deadline.

Harry-certainly additional funding to help those who qualified, even under the current rules, would be helpful.  Expansion even better.

Michelle-I certainly hope there will be another options besides a short sale or VA Compromise Sale.

Jay-the current administration created the $555 Million dollar fund for this program plus the expansion funds that included PCS orders as well as BRAC 05 moves.  I don't think they realized how big the problem was for service members until they starting processing thousands of applications.

Carla-in the glass half full there are thousands of service members who have been helped by this program and for that we should be greatful.

Kevin-it hould have enough funding to provide assistance for everyone who met the initial qualifications at a miniumum.
