Changing Seasons in the Hudson Valley

Sad as it is the summer is over. It is the end of the season and my CSA Farm (Community Supported Agriculture) is just about done. No more fresh local veggies on Saturday morning.  No more salads that begin with visual splendor that follows through with a crisp zesty surprise.

Veggie on Stonegate Farm

The peppers, tomatoes, chard and kale are all dwindling as the weather has turned cooler. These guilt free treats will soon be finished for the season. I will miss my weekly adventures to visit the farm, and say hello to the hens and Mr. Frog.  Fall is here with winter not far behind.

Janis - I'm with you - a little sad.  The seasons are changing, and the days are shorter and cooler.  I too will miss our local farmers market and all the fun that has come with making those weekly trips to the market.  Bye, bye summer!

Oh Janis... so sad.  I cannot believe that Summer, and it's fruits (and veggies) is almost over.  Same here, too, in Northeast Ohio.  Gosh... I hope it doesn't snow tonight... LOL.

Laura ~ the changing seasons are beautiful.. but i really don't like living here in the cold.. I prefer the warm weather and the beach.. sunshine and fresh veggies

John and irma.. so sorry for the power of suggestion here.. but now you know what to make for dinner tomorrow!

Carolyn.. Our little farm nearby was not only the best salad i've ever eaten.. but i would get to see the chickens.. and take photos. It was a mini field trip of sorts every week.. not to mention .. he is a professional photographer that always would give my husband and me a mini lesson when we came.

Oh the wonderful fresh foods summer brings.  I did notice that much of the produce was sold out at the farmers market last Sunday by noon.

John...My husband and I love fruits and veggies.. so winter does have its grapefruit .. but for the most part.. summer salads and stirfry will be missed!

I would love to relocate Winston.. it's just not in the cards for a few years yet.. and I need to find a buyer for my house.

Oh! I love it. The change of seasons hasn't really started in Texas yet. Oh I guess it is a tad bit cooler today. The low was 70 -- But the high was 90. :OD

Joni .. 90? I have no problem with hot.. i just need sunshine and my vitamin D to stay happy...=)

Roger .. fall colors are beautiful.. and i do look forward to getting some photos in before the leaves fall off and it gets ugly out.. I will be stocking up on photos of all sorts of things during the winter months.

Shannon .. Hot Chocolate.. haven't had any in a long time.. sounds great!

Sheila.. just saying thanks for stopping by Sheila... and I do agree that the fall is beautiful.. but it is right before winter.. and thats a long time before spring and flowers and the green again.. My cure is to get away for a recharge and then i'm okay enough.. for now moving south is not going to happen.

Janis- what a beautiful photo!  I do remember when I lived up in Leesburg and the farmer's markets would close and we would have to wait until late spring or summer for them to open.

Yes kathy.. we go into hibernation during the winter and depend on fruits and veggies from other parts of the country. Fresh is best and they just don't taste as good when they are already at least a few days if not weeks old by the time they get to the stores.. =( I am happy to get the grapefruit from your territory though

Janis, these veggies are so gorgeous that they could be sold in the Marche Biologique in Paris.

Janis,

Pretty harvest there!  We are still having warm weather-  daytime temps in the high 80s so fresh grown vegetables are still a plenty!

It is sad to see the end of the farmers' markets around here, too.  We don't have a CSA close enough, but we grow most of our own anyway.
