Meeting your neighborNational Good Neighbor Day-Yep, today is the day you need to be nice to that neighbor of yours. Not all neighbors are good neighbors but this holiday is for you to do something nice for your neighbor, so you are to be the Good Neighbor.

This national day was previously celebrated on the 4th Sunday in September. Three presidents, Nixon, Ford and Carter all made proclamations for this day. Finally in 2003, the Senate passed a resolution declaring September 28th as National Good Neighbor Day. Spread the Word!

National Good Neighbor Day is a chance to do a little something extra for your neighbor. You just might make someone's day. If you are having a hard time of thinking of something to do, here are some suggestions.

Just offer a smile or a friendly hello or wave.
Have your neighbor over for a meal.
Have a block party.
Do some act of kindness for your neighbor.
Or just get to know your neighbor a little better.

We can all be better neighbors so National Good Neighbor Day gives us a chance to be a good neighbor for at least one day a year.

Hi Debbie,  Didn't know about Good Neighbor Day.  Glad I waived to my neighbor today.  Whewww.  We should always be nice to our neighbors but I am glad they set aside a special day as a reminder.

I didn't know it was "Good Neighbor Day" so thanks for the news, Debbie!  I did however say "hi" to a couple of them and exchanged sentiments on how nice the weather is right now.  But I don't let it just be one day, I say "hi" or wave to neighbors and stop for a short chat when I have the opportunity.  Not always the most neighborly of neighbors, some I wave to but they choose to ignore me, that's okay, maybe some day they'll wave back.  Happy Good Neighbor Day, neighbor!

I do try to be the good neighbor but some haven't always felt that I was... when I've called the cops because they are blaring their music and my house is vibrating and I can hear the music even though the house is closed up.  Those are the ones it's hard to be a good neighbor to.

Joy and Christine, This day has flown under the radar. It would have been a perfect time for the media to play it up about being nice to ine another.

Beth, My neighbor almost slammed the door in my face because while he was out of town the housesitter left his dog outside all night in 20 degree weather (this is an inside dog) and the dog barked like crazy. I kept calling his number so someone would answer but nobody ever did. When he got back into town I went over to let him know very nicely but he didn't appreciate it. I will still wave at him but really don't want to talk to him anymore. 

Gabe, You missed it. Next year you will have to be twice as nice.

Michael, I have no idea why the news media doesn't mention things like this. I guess it's too NICE.
