Fall in Tysons CornerJust because it's the end of summer and the kids are back in school doesn't mean we slow things down. There are still plenty of events and activities; as a matter of fact, we stay busy all year round!

Local resident and talented mystery writer Marel Brady found her muse in our fair community and will be publishing her second book, the setting of which will be local. It is easy to see how a creative person could be inspired by this area. It is close to history as well as at the heartbeat of the nation's capitol. It's an active and interesting area which makes it the perfect setting for a mystery novel. The book has not been released yet, but is available for pre-order from many book retailers. Marel has been making the rounds to social and charitable events and everywhere you go people are talking about the book. Her first novel, "Mischief At Middle Wallop", was set in the south of England and was a smashing success with tons of great reviews so we are all looking forward to this latest more local release.

The upcoming deadline for the Photographic Society of America's 2012-2013 Digital Interclub Competition is on October 7th and the Tysons Corner area clubs will be submitting some beautiful work. This will be a Nature Division Digital Club Competition, (details can be found on the website), and all the local photography buffs will be out and about shooting pictures in anticipation. The McClean Photography Club captured some breathtaking wildlife images for another regional competition that will be held in Manassas in November.

If you are looking for a great fall event in the Tysons Corner area check out the "Taste of Friendship Heights" being held this Saturday, September 29th in nearby Washington, DC. An awesome group of the best area restaurants will be participating this year, including a few new places. There will be demonstrations for popular local chefs, live music and entertainment, as well as face painting plus participants will have the opportunity to join the American University basketball team to shoot some hoops! Purchase tickets and pay for the food and drinks with them. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Community Council for the Homeless at Friendship Place. More specific details are available on the website.
