Beauty in the Desert

Last weekend, I drove out to the desert past Indio, CA. While there, the heat was about 112 degrees and walking on the sidewalk in flats, the heat was starting to burn my feet. I tried to get a few nature pictures while there.

Beauty in the Desert

As you can see the landscaping is very sparse but the trees are huge and very decorative.

Beauty in the Desert

Here is a huge bird inside the tree trying to get relief from the heat.

Beauty in the Desert

I have enlarged this huge bird inside the tree....isn't he big? He must find a lot to eat out here.

Beauty in the Desert

This huge crow was just sitting in the palm tree making all kinds of noise so I took his picture. I think he was telling me it was HOT!

Beauty in the Desert

These  Wind Turbines (I call them windmills) are scattered about on both sides of the I-10 Freeway out in the desert. Some people think they make the area look bad but I think they give the area character.

Beauty in the Desert

Here is another windmill (Wind Turbines) picture after the sun started going down. This is my favorite picture.

I think you can see beauty wherever you are; the rocks, the hills, the spare landscaping, the birds and animals scattered about, the clear skies, the earth tone colors and of course the wind turbines. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Hi Tim,

I like the heat out there as it is dry heat and as long as you hydrate yourself, you will be fine. It is amazing how the critters survive out in the desert though.

Kristin, great photos of the desert, loved them. I periodically wonder into the desert just for its beauty. BTW what type of bird was that  in the picture above the crow? Was it a prey bird?

Not sure Endre what kind of bird. I saw one down at Alvera Street last year. This bird looked it weighed 8 lbs or more. Thanks for stopping and have a great Sunday.

Kristin,

Nice shots. The crows seem to like the palm trees here too. :)

Hi Steve,

This crow was also huge and was making so much noise in the tree and seemed to be trying to get my attention. After I took his picture, he quieted down. Camera bird!

Hi Kristin, I was surprised to see these large trees in the desert. I only see cactus in AZ desert.

Hi Kwee,

The trees are huge and have probably been there for over a hundred years but there are quite a few. Amazing huh?
