An Orange A Day....

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Platinum

A friend sent an article to me the other day saying that An Orange A Day Can Help Keep The Doctor Away.    The article says to put oranges, grapefruit and lemons on your grocery list because in a recent study of more than 69,000 women, those that ate several citrus servings a day had a 10 percent lower risk of stroke than women who ate less of the juicy fruits.  And, that's not the only benefit.   Here are some more:

--Oranges tend to get all the glory when it comes to vitamin C.  One medium orange has 70mg, which satisfies nearly 100% of your daily needs.  But, a grapefruit has 88mg. The juice from a lemon is about 25% of your daily needs, and one lime is about 18%.

--Grapefruits are also an excellent source of vitamin A, an essential vitamin that helps promote healthy vision.  Just half of a grapefruit contains 31% of the daily recommended amount of vitamin A.

--All citrus fruits contain fiber, which helps you feel full longer.  That is also why it's better to eat the fruit itself rather than just drinking the fruit juice.  Oranges have the most fiber of all citrus fruits.  One medium orange contains 3 g.

I eat a banana every day...sometimes I miss my orange juice and citrus, but I know it is important, especially in the North in the winter.  Have a wonderful weekend, Kristin.  How many houses will you sell THIS weekend?

Yummmmm!  I love citrus fruits.  I am so glad to know they are so good for you too.  So, how many would it take to be sure I can put my old lady readers down?  ;-).

Good morning Kristin - good, tasty advice :) I'd always heard about apples, but I guess citrus can't hurt, too!

Kristin, this is great information.  I like the part about grapefruit being good for one's vision as I just read that coffee is BAD for one's vision!  Have a fruitful day (but don't multiply)!

Great info MM, I need to pick up some oranges.  I love them, but very seldom buy them.  Granny Smith apples are my thing and a banana every morning with my cereal.

What happened to the old "an apple a day keeps the doctor away?" I think the doctors have invested in the citrus industry... lol. I take fruit with me in my travels every day, banannas, apples, oranges. Makes for a great snack... and I've got all the bases covered!

Have a great day!

I have never been a great fan of oranges or eating citrus raw!  I like grapefruit juice and lemonade however!  I guess I need me some sugar involved ;)

Not to mention that oranges are great cancer clening fruits. They help get rid of the free radicals in one's system

Kristin - Oranges are so tasty; why wouldn't you eat them. Of course, some folks can't because of their meds but if you can, you should.
