81 Comments on Are we all candidates for an Internet Intervention?
You can no longer live without it. You no longer can conduct business without it. Whether or not you spend 24/7 with your face pointed towards your smart phone, laptop or Ipad is in your control. It's really too much.
The Internet is a tool, nothing more, so when you need it, it's there, however, there are more exciting and fun things we can all do rather than being connected or addicted to the Internet, can't you?
I'm addicted, I just had a friend ask me if I could leave my phone at home one night and not freak out. Hmmm, probably not. I need to do better in this area. Congrats on your feature!
Hi Richard, guilty as charged, we may need an intervention but like all addicts, do we really want one.
My name is Judy and I am an Internet addict. I love networking, blogging (although have been putting that aside lately - gotta get back), working on my website, finding new things, etc. My personal time relies heavily on an Internet connection. I'd rather call it a necessity for work and also my hobby (nicer than addiction). I am connected via my phone with my iPad or laptop wherever I go. I do try to dine in restaurants without using my phone and leave the iPad in the car, and am trying to train hubby to do the same (he's worse than a teenage girl with his phone).
I took the red pill and boy, has the ride down the rabbit hole been a wild one! Jack me back into the Matrix boys, there's nothing like being connected!
Hi Richard, we agree. Not only that, but now we have 3 or 4 independant means to connect - "just in case".
Richard.. recently i did not have emails for about 8 hours.. that was painful.. No way to find out if anyone was looking for me..
An internet intervention won't help me because I'm Addicted to technology and all my techno gadgets.
I am addicted to the internet and I don't even have it at home sometimes. My USB internet costs $50 a month so I skip some time in between when bills are due. Priorities, you know.
I do believe that at some point we will rebel. We got cell phones so we could talk anytime, anywhere. Our kids...the 20 somethings rarely talk on the phone but text away. Maybe the next generation will go back to talking to one another...what a concept.
Hi Richard,
This post made me chuckle! I am attached to technology like many here in the Rain BUT every once in awhile I love a tech free day.

My addiction allows more freedom to go anywhere and still be in touch. No one ever needs to know where I am.
Intervention...only if I can bring my iPad!

How many here remember when clients couldn't reach you unless you were in the office?
Do you remember giving your home phone number only to clients who had an active transaction and who might actually need to talk with you in the evening or on Sunday?
And do you remember that the public's expectations were different then? For the most part, they expected to do business during business hours or on Saturday during the day.
Who the heck started the "24/7 service idea?"
OK - Gotta go now. Haven't checked my email in minutes and minutes.
Thought provoking Richard. I'm not addicted, I just don't want to be disconnected. :)
Richard: This reminds me of a quote by the physicist Max Planck: "When you change the way you look at things... the things you look at... change. Very true.
Thought I’d throw in my 2 cents worth from a different angle. I am a freelance real estate assistant and do work via the Internet to support my clients. Most of the time I am in Arizona, but a few weeks ago I was in Colorado….and my clients never knew. I, however, have made it a point not to connect my phone to the internet, so I do have to be physically in front of a computer to be on the internet. That helps me stay somewhat “unplugged,” which is good for me. Also, since many of my clients are on the east coast and do receive email on their phones, I am always cognizant of the time when I am emailing them. I do not want to send an email at 8pm AZ time and “ding” their phone at 11 pm est.
LOL! Love Lenn Harley's comment. I know this is a bit off topic but it kinda hit a nerve and I hope you don't mind me sharing it on your platform. http://activerain.com/blogsview/3430054/when-can-i-start-really-speaking-to-my-wife-kids-again-. Great post! {:<)
Yea I have the Internet monkey on my back. It just sucked me in.
