What will it take for you to get some business?
It's Not Easy
It's hard being a new real estate agent. You take a pre-licensing course that teaches you all of the laws and how the practice of real estate works in your jurisdiction. Upon completion of your courses and the passing of your real estate exam, you think you are ready to take the real estate world by storm. You are armed and dangerous.
The Real World
You join an office, then without any warning, reality slaps you in the face. You hear experienced agents talking in your office, you attend your broker's weekly sales meetings and you realize that what you just learned in your pre-licensing class is vastly different than what happens in the real world.
New Real Estate Agents Soon Realize...
I have seen this play out more times than I care to count. New agents slowly realize that...
- Friends and family aren't going to start lining up at their door to purchase or sell real estate
- Having control of your schedule doesn't mean you will be more productive
- The job carries a lot of liability
- The job is harder than it looks
- It's easier to take more classes than to get out there and face rejection
- Rejection is the norm
Make Something Happen Every Day
It is so very easy to get discouraged and give up. But as a new or an experienced agent you have to make things happen.
- You can't wait for someone to ask you to hold an open house for them. Approach listing agents in your office and ask if you can hold one of their listings open.
- Try doing floor duty in the evenings or weekends
- Pass out your business card as often as you can, but don't be obnoxious about it
- Go out and see property and post what you see on social media sites
- Walk around your neighborhood and let your neighbors know you are a real estate agent and give them a recent CMA
You Need To Meet People
Most importantly, don't be passive. Look for opportunities to talk about real estate. No one can motivate you to succeed, they can only create a motivating environment. Only you can motivate you. You may have to step outside of your comfort zone, but if that's what it takes to make something happen, then start taking those steps.
