My family has been deeply touched by social media – and I'm not just talking about my occasional posts to Facebook. In fact, my grandson became “friends” on Facebook with a sexual predator when he was just 14 years old.

Tim WodaMy son's discovery of an ongoing sexual solicitation of his son resulted in the arrest and conviction of this middle school teacher. It also inspired my two sons to develop a product and business to help other parents thwart predators and bullies from harming other children.

You can see and hear Tim talk about this by setting your DVR now to record the Rikki Lake Show on Thursday at 11 a.m. on Fox WTTG in Washington (Channel 45 on Verizon FIOS) or Fox WBFF in Baltimore. (Link to interview has now been substituted for the advance trailer. 10/4/12)

Find out how easy it is for social media to bring “bad guys” into your home and what you can do to safeguard your children or grandchildren. Please share this information with other parents and grandparents, even if their children are still in elementary school.

Margaret, how scary and how wonderful that your son helped get this creep off the streets.  Social Media has some wonderful aspects to it, but also comes with a lot to be concerned about as your post points out.

This is scary stuff.  I remember an Oprah episode where she said don't ever let your kids have a web cam in their room.  Never!  It's nice to hear your family made a good situation out of a very bad one.

Margaret,

This is so terrifying, especially since we have three teenagers.  Sounds like a great product!  Kudos to your family for trying to help others.

All the best, Michelle

How wonderful that your sons turned something that could have been devastating into a tool that will help so many people.
