Amazing to think of what our children retain while at school...

I asked Erica, my 6 year old daughter in Kindergarten, yesterday afternoon if she knew who Martin Luther King was and to my surprise she said yes.  I'm not sure if I was more surprised that she was paying attention to my question or if it were that she actually did know!

She went on to tell me how he had a speech & worked to help children keep from having to go to seperate schools & drink from different water fountains.  He did so much more than that...I just gave you the 6 year old version...

It's times like yesterday that I feel extremely blessed to live in a country where a man like Dr. King can lead an effort of unity & that although he has passed...his desires haven't.

'I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.' August, 1963, in a speech to civil rights supporters at the March on Washington.

His death was another of those history defining moments that make you remember where you where when you heard the news, kind like JFK & RFK.

My 8 yearl old grandson understood and knew a little.

My 5 year old grandson just knew he had a day off from school.

I remember the day, I remember the era and I will never forget either.  MLK had a vision, a dream and that lives on.  He was a man beyond his time.  I paid tribute to him today too, check me out!  And thanks for sharing this blog.
