What Is FTP?

I've mentioned FTP (File Transfer Protocol) before as a tool necessary for installing WordPress themes and plugins. It is needed for maintaining any web site.

Some folks may be new to handling their own web site or blog, and may be unfamiliar with FTP. Instead of writing an FTP tutorial, I'm sharing one great link instead.

MIchael -- I've got both Cute and WS on my 'puter. (A new version of WS, an older version of Cute). I've been using WS more often lately -for no particular reason - they're both good programs.

Thanks, this is my reading for the day. I am going to try to tackle the website project. I have someone doing it for me now and I hate not having control.

I use cuteftp myself.. good and easy.

However, if your using Windows Xp you do know that you have an ftp client built in right? :-)

Simply open up any windows explorer window and type in ftp:// followed with the ftp address

I've been using FileZilla for my FTP transferrs. It works great!

You can open FTP in Internet Explorer 6 too. It is a little more tricky, but Internet Explorer 7 is also capable. The advantage to using a program such as FTP Planet is that it allows you to see .htaccess files that cannot be seen in IE.
