Was it really that cold in Lawrenceburg?

As I returned from a home inspection in Willisburg, KY on Saturday, I saw this on the Bluegrass Parkway just south of Lawrenceburg, KY

Most of this is not water running on the surface of the ground. It's seeping out of the rock walls of a cut thru a hill leading down to the Kentucky River Bridge on the Bluegrass Parkway just south of Lawrenceburg, KY.

I see a lot of this type of ice when the weather gets cold enough.

When I woke up to let the dog out, the next morning, this is what greeted me as I opened the inside door. Yup, mother nature's artists had been at work overnight on the glass of the rear storm door. That's the sunrise shining behind it.

I was glad to have my long johns and insulated coveralls for the inspection. Kept me nice and warm.

AND, no it wasn't really that cold. I thought it was, until I talked to my sister in Northwest Nebraska, where the temperature was 10 below zero. It made me realize that 15 degrees above zero wasn't really all that cold.

Well, Judith Reppert mentioned frost flowers, which piqued my curiosity. So I went and found a couple of pictures of them to share with y'all.

Wow. I was just in that area in November. That is some coll photos.

I've been truckin around in my fur boots for days! Also on emergency heat at my house which will really jack up my electric bill. Neat pic of your icy door.

Nice photos but as an ex-New Englander I much prefer the 55 deg. temp at 10:30pm in Louisiana. Don't much care if my next or only exposure to snow and ice is on video tape... oops (showing my age) I mean YouTube.

Erby, that ice looks just beautiful. We found some "frost flowers" , which are sort of long curls of ice, at the base of one of the trees on our land the other day. They were lovely and I had never seen any before. No camera, though.

Just wanted to drop by and let you know I appreciated your comment on my switching offices post. I haven't been on AR much lately and didn't write you a proper response. Sorry about that!

Erby, nice job with the frost flower pics! That's just what they looked like, and of course we were strolling in the woods without a camera at the time. Thanks for posting them.

Gotta get yourself a digital camera. I like the Sony Cybershot. Have it with me almost all the time just for things like this.

Melissa: Ypu'll be relatively warm with a predicted high of 36° F and a low of 25° F for today.

Though I still prefer the high to be about 80° F with a low of 70° F.

That's the best weather for my marketing trips.

Hello, Erby!

The frozen ice from the rocks looks like stalactite--very cool (so to speak). I've not noticed frost flowers before...I'm sure they're around. I'll pay more attention since it's been very cold here in Southern IL--it's been in the teens lately. Must be that global warming.

I looked at Wikipedia - wow! Thanks for the pretty pix - I have never heard of these before. They are so stunning. I will look for them when I walk in the woods when it's cold. Love it! Just another reminder to us all that there is soooo much more than real estate going on in this world. Beautiful.

Until now, NY has been very mild - almost balmy. Tonight its very cold and blustery. The dogs LOVE it - I usually don't mind the cold but my body is in shock! GREAT photos. The frost flowers are really neat.

You guys are having a heat wave.

The wind chill yesterdy was about 20 below and frost has formed on the inside of my windows. That means the humidity in the house is high for our comfort and it freezes on the windows.

The outside cold isn't bothering me because I'm just not going out outside much. This is my healing time

Erby, thanks for stopping by and reading and commenting on my post about the laptop being our TV! Actually I have never been one for TV anyway, but my husband likes the TV so I just used that example. I am in Owensboro, not too far from you. I just moved here and just became active in the rain. Isn't it great?

I love the incredible beauty that can come with snow and ice!! However, I can never handle the intense temperatures that come with it. Thanks for sharing the beauty without the cold!!

Vickie, It's great enough that I quit my corporate job and started this gig so I could stay here when the corporation told me it was time to move on. I REALLY like Central Kentucky, the people, and the lifestyle.

And YES, Vickie, the Rain is great. It's a wonderful resource for those of us wise enough to use it.

Trish. That's one of the great things about Central Kentucky. It comes but doesn't stay long. A couple of weeks ago, it snowed about 10 inches. We played and had fun. Two days later, it was ALL gone.
