Let It Rain! AR Meet-up for a cause! Ovarian Cancer ~ Chesapeake Beach, MD
Let It Rain! AR Meet-up for a cause! Ovarian Cancer ~ Chesapeake Beach, MD It was a beautiful morning for a drive! Claire & I left home in Manchester and headed for Chesapeake Beach, MD, about a 2 hour drive. I knew we would be walking the Railway Trail, having breakfast after the walk at a local restaurant, Traders, a favorite of our hostess, Cheryl Ritchie, and enjoying the company of friends while we walked for a great cause, Ovarian Cancer.
What I didn’t know was where is the Railway Trail? Will I know anyone else there? Who cares! In the spirit of ActiveRain I’m going! I’m going to let it rain, new places. I’m going to let it rain new faces. I’m going to let it rain sharing and caring across a real estate network that I am proud to be a part of!
We had a wonderful time! Claire, my daughter, learned I’m not alone in my constant camera toting and photo taking. I learned Chesapeake Beach, MD is a beautiful place I want to visit again when I have more time to explore. I also met several new bloggers and learned more about those I know think of as dear friends.
As I started writing my blog post about this wonderful event, I realized something else I don’t know. I don't know much about Ovarian Cancer. I do know a few women whose lives were cut short by this horrible disease and I hope this post and Cheryl’s walk made a difference.
According to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund website, American Cancer Society estimates 22,280 women will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer in the United States in 2012 and about 15,500 women will die from the disease.
We have to break the silence of Ovarian Cancer so that we can make a difference. In my opinion, 1 is to many. As ugly and terrifying as it is to talk about we can’t turn our backs and take a chance on losing more women. “The tragedy is in our ignorance.”
Please, Mark your calendars for next year's walk is already being planned so be sure to set aside time to join us next year!
