I received this in my spam folder this morning.  Being curious I googled the name and location.  It's a close match namewise, the place exists as written, it's in Nigeria...............oh Nigeria...........again.  Of course I didn't respond, but I'd like to - heck I'd invite the whole tribe as we have loads of homes available :-)

                                                                  Here's what follows:

Attn, Iam in need of a good family home in your area for immediate acquisition and relocation of my family. In the event you have available homes, please get back to me with the details which will aid me in making a good and informed decision. You can send me the details by email or phone.Buying a home is like an overwhelming task, but i strongly believe the right realtor can make the process easier.
Please get back to me as quickly as you can.
Yours truly

Gail, thanks for the heads up. About three times a week I receive these types of email as well. Place on your junk mail list.

Thanks Gail, I can see how this would be an easy one to open, the signature is the only thing that gives it away.

Gail, I got 4 of these when I put one of my own personal rental properties on Craigs List.  They just make you roll your eyes in the back of my head.  One said that he would " have to pay more than the actual rent to me and then the other money would be for expenses"?!!  I am mean I just tell them that I will need copies of all of their legal documents and work visas.  I sometimes tell them I am reporting their email address to the FBI.  I never hear fromt them again.

I have to say, they are getting better!  Thanks for the warning!

Gail,

I believe the last one I got was thru activerain? It was from a Nigerian asking for something similiar to what yours has. I was shocked to see this come thru activerain server!!!! If this was legit then I just missed a deal but I don't think so.

Let's see...  No spaces after the periods.  Stilted English.  Odd phrases.  Easy to spot.  Just reading it makes it pretty obvious that this is either spam or someone that has issues.

Grilled spam is better than just right out of the can. So before I do anything we ask questions. In most cases it is too good to be true.

OK I've seen most of the Nigerian scams, but whats the deal here? They try and get you to front cash so they can come look at the house? Or what?

Gail - Nobody says "immediate acquisition" in real estate. That is too funny. My favorite part about these spam e-mails is that I typically 3 in a row to different e-mail address.

Hi Everybody - Just got in from a busy day and appreciate all your comments.  Some I would like more dialogue on if you're into it.

Vinnie- You are so right, normally I would delete-delete-delete, but this one was tempting.  So I googled and it still appeared quite legit.  The signature is actually a pretty close match to a real person in Nigeria.  Hey - perhaps they experience paranoia too ;-)

Audrey- the weird thing is, it entered my main email address, not CraigsList, or gmail, etc.  This address is not available online as I use forms.  Hmmmmmmmm.............

Mike- I also received that one thru AR.  I think it would be impossible for them to filter this junk!

Lane - spot on.

Terry - ditto that sentiment, but have you actually responded to any of these solicitations?  If so let us know what came of it - please.

John - I have no clue!!!

Ryan- LOL - my immediate thought was nobody says "in the event you have available homes" OMG - do we ever, c'mon down, would you like ten or would 20 be better????

Krista- You get the gold star for funniest comment on a very un-funny real life problem.  KUDOS

Thanks to all of you, the public has no idea what we deal with on a day to day.  Hang-in.

............and now this...............I received a private contact from this post and wanted to check out the person's profile on AR.  Then I discover the search "by name or blog comments" section has been replaced by a generic google search bar.  What is going on???  I've been following the very controversial HomeValues post that Cheryl Johnson initiated earlier today and wondering if the introduction of HV has anything to do with losing our search tool through AR.  OH......the winds of change are stirring!  Input appreciated.

I seem to be on the list too. Hopefully enough people will report these types of things.

After so many years who is still sending these people money or information?

Nigerian banks must be full of gold, bearer bonds and  the villages all full of excentric millionaires living in straw huts.

I've gotta tell you, since I posted this , I've received some - what word to use - unexpected email and comments.  I also posted on Reliberation which I may delete!  I decided to move this post from public to Members Only on AR based simply on a gut feeling.  Maybe I'm reading too many thrillers.  Any comments?

Many years ago I worked at a place that received letters from Nigeria. They were hand typed and often several pages long. One was so full of unintentional comedy that a co-worker and I sent a dollar... this in hopes of keeping it coming. My goodness- we received enough letters to fill a file box.

Chuck - what a hoot, I can't believe they actually mailed letters.  Thank goodness we've become a little wiser over the years.  I imagine these scams are much harder to perpetrate with us blabbing all over the internet ;-)
