Political Choice Can Make or Break Your Real Estate Deal

Talking politics is not something I do with clients.  But what happens when during your initial telephone conversation, the potential buyer begins discussing their political thoughts and party choice and then asks you what party you represent and your thoughts on certain topics?

The buyer voiced his political choice and began bashing the other party.  It was clear after a few minutes with this potential buyer that my party would be his deciding factor in whether or not to work with me.  I just listened and let this buyer vent and did everything possible to put this buyer on track as to the reason he called me...to help him find a home.  I never did state my political choice and ended up getting the "I'll give you a call back if I'm interested" response from the buyer.

What would you do when the to be client straight out asks you if you're Republican or Democrat?   If you're pro-life or not?  If you're voting for Obama or Romney?

I prefer the quote "separation of church and state" since real e'state' is in that quote I keep them separate.

Jody, discussing politics and religion can be volatile topics. In the case where you agree with them then maybe proceed. If you don't mesh maybe take a more neutral stance and just say you understand their thoughts. It is a delicate area and we all are entitled to our opinions. Just respect theirs.

Jody, I really think Gary made some good suggesitions.  I have been fortunate in that living in my area of Texas most people have the same politiacal views as I do.  If I know someone agrees with my views I will discuss but if not I avoid the subject as best I can.

If this gentleman was deciding on his REALTOR by politics it might be just as well to move on, NEXT.
