The Weekend Sports View

Very interesting sports weekend. In no particular order here are my thoughts.

First the Atlanta Brave's fans should be ashamed. The final game for Chipper Jones, a sure bet HOF player and a total class act, will unfortunately be more remembered for the classless fans who threw trash on the field after a disputed call. I agree that it was a bad call. It was simply a short fly ball and the infield fly rule should not have been invoked. But, it was a judgment call and sports is filled with disputed call like this. The judgment of the fans to throw debris on the field and halt the game for 20 minutes was deplorable. Chipper Jones deserved better on his final day in a big league uniform as a player.

Next is Matt Cassel the KC Chiefs quarterback. Granted he has not done as much as either he or the fans would have liked. But by all reports he has worked as hard at his craft as anyone could be expected to. Then a nasty but clean hit renders him unconscious on the field and the fans cheer! No way! These are same fans that on Wednesday showed a lot of class when they cheered for Miguel Cabrera when he became the first “Triple Crown” winner since 1967 on the KC Royals baseball field. Hard to figure.

Finally there is Tony Stewart AKA Smoke at Talladega. The Talladega Super Speedway is know for high speed and big wrecks. On the last lap of the race Tony Stewart, in the lead, slides down the track to block an overtaking car. He is late, gets his rear quarter tapped, spins and starts the big one as they say. At least 25 cars were involved but human injuries were avoided. Of course the dollar cost in metal is in the millions. Matt Kenseth in the 17 car was able to snake his way through the carnage and was declared the winner. In a post race interview Stewart did not mince words. He said into the cameras and microphones “I was at fault 100%. Sorry to all the drivers and teams whose day I ruined”. Great to hear someone take responsibility for a change.

These are my thoughts and I am sticking with them. My name is Dale E. Bledsoe with Crown Key Realty and as always I may be reached at 209-481-6031.

Dale: As a Tigers fan, I thought the KC fans were very classy when Cabrera won the triple crown- Even the local announcers on 97.1 mentioned it.  It was a good weekend for sports here in Michigan: The Tigers won their 1st two games, Michigan State and Michigan both won in the Big 10, and the Lions had a bye week, so they didn't lose!  Thanks for sharing!  :)

Fans just go off the deep end at times, unfortunately. One idiot or drunk, or most likely, one drunken idiot starts throwing things and other fans follow. They should be stopping it, but we know the 'mob mentality' over rides sense way too often.
