Did I just help or hurt my SEO?

Okay experienced SEO'ers out there- I have a question. Let me set the stage for you.

After years of hemming and hawwing I am finally getting my act together and completely overhauling my website/blog. I have been taking massive amounts of city pictures and videos, organizing them through my google+ account.

Now this is my question, by posting them through my google+ account before I put them on my site or blog, do I help or hurt potential SEO for my site?Is google going to view my pictures as old news once I repost them to the actual site?

Should I keep them private until I unveil them on my site or blog?

Pam,

Here would be my thoughts on this matter...........

The first thing I would do is make sure I had Google Authorship set up. If you have Google Authorship set up, Google will no doubt be able to sort out the fact that you are posting your images to your Google+ account and then posting them over to your site.

That being said, I would probably post them to my own website and blogs first. That would always be the main hub of my activity online. Start everything from your own website and then work out from there.

I don't think you are killing your SEO by any means by posting to Google first. But it just makes the most sense to use your own site and blog as the anchor from which all of your other activity originates. Hope that helps a little bit.

Hi Bob, Thanks for commenting! Do you think it would hurt if I had them on Google+ set to private, and then used them? I'm looking for away to keep the photos available to the members on my team so they could use them their blogs as well. I just haven't found a great way to store and share easily...

Yes, you should make them public and make sure you label them as such. Then when you use them in blogs you can tag them and in general they will come up in search results for your area. Google loves using images for SEO factors so by all means. Make them public and tag or title them when you use them in blogs and Google will see value in that. Bob's right too. Always start from your website and work out. Everything should be leading people and bots back to your website.
