Sunset

I've had a daily blog since mid-2005. I don't think it was called a "blog" at that point...the labeling came later. It seemed important to me to talk about the interesting people & events that sum up the allure of my area. Rarely did I write about real estate...it was more about the people, the place, the community itself...it's called "localism" now, this concept of showcasing an area. I still think it's important to present the elements that make an area essentially itself. A visitor or buyer will find this interpretive description of a place to be of interest.

I retain my original website (in place since 1995) as it apparently gives me something called "domain authority". I keep it up to date & current...also have another site, though, which is completely different in design & content. Perhaps it's a good idea to have more than one venue on the web? Each with its own significant fingerprint? There are so many ways to introduce a business to the world-wide web...perhaps it's a good idea to be as eclectic as possible? It is called a web...not a linear track, then, as in print media.

Terms such as short-tail and long-tail describe the timelines involved in Internet marketing. The strengths of the digital world are completely different from those of the print world, pre-Internet. Patience is required re outcomes?

Working in a secondary home & resort-based region, with a predominantly non-local buyer profile, it's essential to have a strong digital marketing presence. The mls system is no longer enough. The company franchise system no longer delivers on referrals. The Internet has put the consumer in control, and nowhere is this as evident as in a recreational/secondary home marketplace. Truly, as Marshall McLuhan promised, it's now a global village & the medium is the message.

Social media furthers the power of the consumer. With a Twitter, a Facebook, & a Linkedin presence since early 2008, and an activerain membership since the same timeline, and a YouTube visual since 2010, that "everywhere" presence is in place. Does it result in deliverable business? Difficult to say what works/what doesn't. Important, I think, to be visible in all available venues.

Different days, yes. Solid business practices remain the same, however.

Methodology may change & technology creates new avenues for marketing, but strong service & a commitment to ethical practices & a current knowledge of trends...these add up to consumer trust in a professional's interpretation.

I have not been doing social media as long as you, actually 18 months now. I wish I had gotten started much earlier. It now brings in one and a half mortgage applications per week, but I have out twice as many referral than I did before I started.

I am in the process of having a new website built, very exciting.

What really struck me about this blog was that you reminded us that the Internet is a web and not a linear path - I love that!  You can't just have one website and call it good anymore.
