The Maryland Homestead Tax Credit  Eligibility DeadlineMaryland Flag

Maryland State Law established The Homestead Tax Credit to do two things

  1. Help homeowners deal with large assessment increases on their primary residence and
  2. limit tax increases to a maximum of 10% per year, or lower based on your local government caps. Check your County and Municipal Homestead Credit Percentages. The Homestead Tax Credit DOES NOT limit the market value of the property

According to Maryland Department  of Assessments & Taxation in order to continue being eligible for the Homestead Tax Credit program Maryland Homeowners need to submit the Homestead Eligibilityapplication before December 31, 2012

House in Westminster MD

It’s easy to apply, here’s what you can do:

Look up your property at MD Real Property Database  all you need is your county & home address.  Once you enter the information your property tax record will come up. Scroll to the very bottom of the page & you will see Homestead Application Status: No Application means you have not yet applied.

If you would like to apply online to continue to be eligible for the tax credit go to  Homestead Tax Credit Eligibility Application heres what you will need:

  • Your County
  • Real Property Account number ~ located at the top of your tax assessment that you looked up at MD Real Property Database
  • Access Number ~ there are 2 ways to get the access number
    1. Email the Homestead Division of the MD Department of Assessments & Taxation and request an application - your address including your county is needed to process the request. OR

Just FYI, both numbers are wrong when you talk about calling for the access number. The correct local number is 410-767-2165 (the one you posted is some poor man's cell phone with a full voicemailbox). I have not been able to find the missing digit for the 1-866-50-8783 number you have posted as of yet.
